I have been around for a while, there used to be a reply on suggestions made back in the days. First it was 100 upvotes and then later changed to 250 votes. I get it, the first threshold was low and I remember that I thought to myself when I read it was changed to 250 that Ched will prioritate these much more and take a look at them in a reasonable time. However, the current situation in the suggestions section of the forums is out of hand.

When I read the post above I assume we will get some kind of review where in the past 80-90% has been a "NO". One out of 10 suggestions ever made might maybe be feasible with a big "Maybe"..

But currently even with the 250+ threshold suggestions keep collecting dust in the cyberspace waiting years for a reply. Whats the point of suggestions. I dont like to complain and it was years ago I posted in GD, but I really would like to know why it has become like this?

Are our suggestions not worthy a answer in a reasonable time? Have our suggestions been so bad in the past that devs dont even bother spending 5min on one of them when reaching the 250+ votes?

Here are just a few 250+ votes suggestions waiting for some kind of "review".

I could probably find even more. We reached the 100 000  active members recently. Is it not important to show the younger generation that their "suggestions" could be part of this game as well one day? Is this the way to do it? By first increase the threshold and then ignore (it surly feels like a ignored part of the game).

Why not just take away the whole "suggestions" secition Ched? Whats the point of it nowdays? Some people have been waiting Years, yes thats right Years, to get a review.

And "May be looked into"...

If a player collects 250+ upvotes for a suggestion at least a small review could be sent to that person right? Something like "this has been looked into and is not feasible". The whole waiting for years for a review not knowing if it will be "looked into" or not is just wrong.

And to boot, some of those 250R+ suggestions are memes, but some of them are genuinely really good suggestions

Inb4 Ched after this thread:

After careful consideration, due to Torn's unprecedented population growth, suggestions now require 500+ upvotes to be considered.

DarthRevan [2836054] Reporter

It’s hard enough to get upvotes in there without sharing it around discords as is, there simply isn’t 250 unique people actually looking at the suggestions forum.

stellar case is Bikomads suggestion about locking the map to ranked war rank… that wouldn’t have had nearly as many upvotes or attention has he not mass pinged the nebula discord for it.

I’ve been trying to get my own suggestion pushed out, but due to not mass pinging a discord with 4000+ people in it, it’s at a slight disadvantage

Leafeh [467479]

The Open All Items one you included does already have a response, as it's a repeat suggestion Ched has responded to before.

It's been pointed out twice in that very thread already, but the OP just chooses not to include that information anywhere that is accessible to people reading, so that the mistake keeps coming up that the idea doesn't have an existing response.

Here's Ched's response when this topic came up in GD a couple of years back.

Edit: For the record, I do think criticism of response times is legitimate. Especially when something like Crimes 2.0, that was said to be holding attention away from such "distractions", has seemingly slowed to a crawl, if not stopped dead in it's releases. I just don't think things being included that aren't true (like the open all items suggestion never getting a response) is helpful when starting these conversations.

It's also frustrating to see the same conversations happen years later. Stuff like this could be avoided if there was better management of the suggestions forum section, easily accessible past information, views, and posts from Ched on this topic from the past, and perhaps someone allocated to micro-manage that area on a volunteer basis similar to B&I.

This all seems like an easily solvable issue, and neglecting to do anything about it just leaves an unnecessary source of resentment to build in players over the years.

With regard to entertainment, people don’t know what they want.

Look at Darth Vader.  After the original trilogy people thought, “Wow!  That guy is bad ass!  We want to know more!”

So we got ‘I’ll try spinning!’ and ‘I hate sand’.  What made Vader cool  was the mystery.  It was having this vague idea of seduction by dark power, the corruption of a good man, and the loss of a soul to mechanization.   Actually seeing them install the parts was kind of like taking the Mickey Mouse suit’s head off.

But a movie about Vader’s backstory for sure would have been 250 R+.

Ched painted himself into a corner.  He either has to look unresponsive or look like he always says no.  Because most suggestions, especially popular ones, are dumb or impractical.  Anyone who has ever worked on a committee understands this.

Mr-Chuckles [2868555]

For the myopic of memory, Ched and staff have replied to this subject before and said.. I para phrase

They do read the forums

Good ideas are considered and may influence change

They dont have time to answer and debate all the suggestions

The end

Ben_Hagen [2966467]

True. To get the required upvotes you basically need a marketing campaign and access to a big audience. I've seen people adding their suggestion link to their forum sig, advertising it in the newspaper, DM-ing me, and make a GD post to get attention for their SG post.

Getting the required upvotes feels more like a popularity contest than a threshold for quality and usefulness of the suggestion.

Beerstein [1322136]

Gonna be honest, there's no point in using it and because so many gave up on it, the only ones that can even get 250 votes (since the forum isn't active enough) are ones that have their fac family spam upvote, or run a massive spam/ad campaign which defeats the purpose of them actually having genuine support from the wider community.

TaisBerri [4306147]

seems like they already know what to work on right now and with the way ppl complain about every update that’s isn’t a new crime or w/e it is tht yall want every update to be I’m not surprised tht they don’t respond to suggestions.

VitaGreta [1867016] Wiki Contributor

Thanks Leafeh. I updated the post. The idea was to show just a few of probably many many waiting for some king of "review" not knowing if a suggestion will be "looked into" or not. I added that last part as well when I updated the post.

Hamr [2027992]

Not that I can find the source for it, but Ched has previously said the 250+ voted suggestions do get put on a to-read list.

A number of suggestions I've followed or been involved with have actually gotten responses from Ched, and, as you should expect, whether a suggestion gets a response depends largely on whether Ched is ready to explore a position on the topic.

Ched's team does have an actual design agenda, and like any creative project that leaves some questions unexplorable until a later time. So for suggestions that fall into that category, no response can be provided.

Further, players keep repeatedly suggesting things that Ched has previously ruled out. Relitigating them just wastes everyone's time.

And then there's suggestions that might reveal details about future releases. These Ched also can't answer too much without pre-rigging the game's market.

I mean, I get why there are complaints on this.

We get some new attack log screen that is just slightly different and not necessarily better than before. Which was also with the item images. Devs put a lot of work into these things nobody asked for, while practical stuff like, for example, the message system (not even seeing the previously sent message directly) or the points system (why not the same build-up as item market for regular items?) are left behind...

Where do these priorities come from to "upgrade" something by slightly altering the looks instead of practical/functional upgrades?

Hamr [2027992]

A mix of project practicality, and overall game development agenda.

If it's on Ched's to do list, it'll be worked on if possible.

If there's spare dev power, compatible side-projects (like image redux, or attack logs) will also get some dev time

If a reeeeallly good suggestion comes along, it becomes a sidequest.

And then all the fluff writing gets sent to Sugarvalves, who has yet to come back from his vape break

It maddens me how often people look at a new small update and conclude the devs just aren't doing anything most of the time...
