I've been hooked on Torn lately, but the progression scratches a lot of the same itch that EVE does. If you've never tried it, it's worth checking out.

 

Both games reward patience, long-term planning, and building wealth instead of rushing to an endgame. The economy is almost entirely player-driven, your choices matter, and joining a good corporation (similar to a faction in Torn) makes a huge difference. Whether you're into PvP, industry, trading, logistics, or just making money, there's always another goal to work toward.

 

The best part is that EVE Online is free to try, so you can jump in without spending anything and see if it's your kind of game.

Curious how much overlap there is between these communities. Who here plays EVE, and what do you spend most of your time doing?

I used to 'try' to play Eve, cause you're always learning. It has a steep learning curve but it's a nice game, one that I hope to get back to someday. I love it's graphics, soundtrack is amazing. Sometimes I just play some 6-12h Eve soundtrack on YouTube while working.

 

Mostly I'd hop onto some fleets for some pvp, some faction warfare for a 1v1 or sometimes just exploring. Did some mining but didn't like it much. Missions I've heard that is nice also.

I always wanted to get into Eve, but then I found out that it is either a subscription based game or needs a lot of time to be played for free and I didn't want to commit so much time to it.

 

But my interest is still there

Totally fair—I had the same concern at first. Honestly, the subscription is a lot like Torn's Donator status. It gives you some nice perks and makes progression smoother, but you can absolutely play and enjoy the game without it. I'd recommend trying an Alpha account first. If you end up liking EVE, then you can decide later whether Omega is worth it. Also you can pay for the sub trading in-game the same way u can with Torn.

You did your job, mate. Just by creating this thread you have already reignited the spark to start with Eve, so I will definitely test it out

Glad to hear that! My biggest piece of advice would be to join a player-owned corporation once you get started. EVE really shines when you have a group to learn with and people to fly with — it makes the game much less overwhelming.

Mining is actually where I got my start in EVE as well but there so many other things to do too. come back and give it another go! & as mentioned above join a player owned corp.
