Just a thought, and it needs WAY more refinement/thought (not my strong suit these days) before it’s even really a suggestion, but wanted to put the format out there to see if anyone else had anything to add.
So, we all know RW is a great source of income, and real wars can be fun when you get a good matchup, but termed wars seem to be the way of Torn, and they’re quite boring. Matchups are lopsided, turtling is expensive and boring, but is of course a good strategy, and in the ranks below Diamond, it’s really dependent on who has the 2-3 highest stat players. All roads lead to termed wars for easy money. This is already common knowledge.
I think it would be fun to have seasonal Ironman or death match bracketed tournaments. All voluntary, I’m sure that staff could use a metric like average battle stat score/faction size to put brackets together, etc.. kind of how RW is now.. but, ya know, not broken.
Once it starts, it’d be a fast-paced game play. All players could start with 500 or 1000 or some arbitrary number of ‘war energy’ (independent of regular energy, maybe?), no self hosps, 10 minute max hosp timers, limited medical cooldown, and instead of having to have a large lead to win, first team to X score while holding Y lead (say, first to 1000 wth at least a 25 score lead). It could be over in hours. One loss (maybe 2?), you’re out till the next bracket. Winning teams goes on. On and on till the final bracket, and there could be multiple ‘leagues’ depending on faction strengths.
As I said, I know there’s a ton of details that would need to be ironed out, and it’s a pipe dream anyways, but I think it would be fun.
Another, easier RW iteration I think would be fun would be allowing factions to team up. Two smaller factions link and enlist together, and get matched with two other factions that have enlisted together.
Idk, just think it’d be fun to refresh some of the competitive aspects of war.
