Here's some useful guides & resources, covering various aspects of Torn. :)

New Player / Beginner Stuff

Other Guides / Useful Links

Also of note: Factions and You (how to pick a faction) and Why You Should Not Run A Company (specific section of Baldr's Basic Advice).

My biggest pieces of advice: Don't get sucked into a "noob trap" faction. Don't post in the General Discussion forum until you're a year old or at least have a strong grasp on not only the game, but on the community as well (since it will likely attract unwanted negative attention).

Additionally, people don't take kindly to beggars. Mechanics like bountying, attacking, mugging, etc also aren't "harassment" (and people will make fun of you if you call them "bullying"), and if someone is targeting you, ignore them and move on. They eventually will lose interest if you don't feed into it, or you will outgrow them.

In line with that, scamming is allowed. It will make you a ton enemies; you're best to avoid attempting it yourself (note, I'm not referring to the "scamming" crime, but the act of scamming). Make sure you familiarize yourself with the Rules on what is and isn't allowed if you're unsure.

I know the above may sound a little harsh or intense, but there are a lot of good people and communities in this game. You just have to find and get to know them, and learn to separate the toxic or negative from the positive.

Read a lot of guides.   Learn how people min max different parts of the game.  Then with that knowledge take the parts you like that are fun for you and do it your way.

Torn is a slow long grind over real years of play.  How much effort you want to put into different parts of the game is a personal choice.  Torn is a great place for delayed gratification.   There are a lot of good people here.  Make friends and find experienced players who can help you with the basics.  Torn has a rather steep learning curve and it's actually hardest in the beginning.   Torn is what you make it.

Quick tips.  Live in a pi and get to lvl 15 soon.  Join a established faction with people who enjoy showing you the ropes.  Don't take being attacked or mugged or bounties personally.  Don't beg and don't start trash.
