Discussing your Books and Collections - Librarian or Illiterate?

My first book sounded a lot more useful that what it actually was...especially considering I was a 30 day nub with only a handful of merits! Second book was the stealth book (which again is mega useless for my stage of the game), followed by the troll of having Finders Keepers in my mission books but not being able to buy it as I've not played long enough to accumulate that many mission points. Month 3 coming up and I can't wait to how useless the next book is (if it comes).

I actually started reading my first book 17 days ago, Brawn Over Brains (Permanently increases Strength by 5% (up to 10,000,000 maximum gain) after 31 days.) Have been sitting on some books and decided to start. I sometimes forget to take a look into mission, but I rarely found books there.

There are one that are useless now, like the one that double candy effects. Thought on using some candies while reading to improve some gains, but don't know if it would be worth spending booster cd with it.

Maybe will use the increase awareness in January's Awareness Week, though I remember reading someone saying it doesn't do much effect.

Want to read the books that gives stat gain bonus, but need to stack on FHCs and have a not so busy month. Taking xanax on time is really hard.

I thought I read somewhere not to use the awareness book during that event because it didn’t stack or something like that. Could be wrong but double check before doing it. Be shit to waste a book even if it isn’t all that OP!

I have my the books I have and need to read grouped together in the middle of my display, with the 2 or 3 I've read grouped together further down. 

Im particularly excited about the 2× Alcohol effect book, and will go to a 10* Mine to make the most of it with JPs & the 30% booster reduction, I'm at 75nnb but want to be more effective for PAs & high level OCs depending on where I am serving factionwise. 

If I could remove one book it would be memories and mammaries, since everyone would blame ched no matter how you cut it. 

Ha terrible luck with books, but with the few I did get as a subscriber and from missions are being read for maximum return. The energy books are nice for events,especially as you progress in the game. The books that double effects or lower consumable cooldowns have sort of a soft lock on them due to the investment required to take full advantage of them. The flat increase xy stat or work stays books are a nice random bonus that you can pick up whenever you're above the max limit where you can't benefit more from them. Finally the increase in effect books for gyms and such are very handy if they are used correctly.

All in all, books make a huge difference in the moment if used correctly but is a small bonus in the long run.

Do you think Ched ever considered a win/lose book, the Lady or the Tiger-style,

read it, and you have a 26 pct chance of doubling one work stat (or another good outcome) and a 74 pct chance of something bad

Ched kind of does this with a few drugs, and with some weapons powers (berserker), why not a grimoire ?

Would be a good ideia, but I'd say something like doubling is too OP.  The other outcome could be something worthless rather than a negative outcome, like win a Certificate.

I will say I have gotten way more books as a F2P player than any form of P2W method. By a huge margin. Like 6:1 

As a relatively newer player I have been fortunate to acquire a number of books that are appropriate for scrubs such as myself, and am now about to complete my 6th book.  These are:

.  Finders Keepers

. Smuggling for Beginners

. The Real Dutch Courage

. Making Friends, Enemies and Cakes

. Keeping your Face Handsome (completing soon)

As you can see, nothing earth-shattering, but the modest gains of money and nerve will compound over time.  To answer your questions:

o  My favorite of the bunch is Finders, Keepers which gave me a nice financial boost very early, with Dutch Courage second since I enjoy crime.

o  I don't think books are balanced at all, but I'm ok with all that RNG, that just seems to be the way Torn works

o  And I believe the effort put into acquiring them is worth the reward

o  While the power level of books is very wide there's none I would get rid of.  I even got some decent value out of Soap on a Rope as I had started Pickpocketing and was getting jailed a couple of times a day.  This helped me git gud

I currently own 20 books.  I have yet to read a book.  Primarily this is because almost all of them have a life of 31 days, and it would be a waste to use them at my current stat/activity level.

My first book read was No More Soap on a Rope followed by Making Friends, Enemies and Cakes both of which Andyman advised could be read anytime in his wonderful guide, 

There are a lot of books aimed at fresher players, like the smuggling ones, which I reckon wouldn't excite people who've been around a while.

ohhh I never really got into books except for how to use them most efficiently (like regarding the op ones)

I’ve read the smuggling book for bringing more items from abroad, but I’ve got at least another 10 books on standby. Ignorance is bliss is one of note. Most of em revolve around temp stat increases, which I’m saving for a particular time. Oh, I also have brown nosing the boss. Anyone know if directors are willing to pay you to read it?
