if not, whats better for exp? Beginner standard advanced, maybe it depends on level, what should i be doing?

edit: im not very good at explanations lol, what type/level of hunting should i pick for max exp gains, and does that change when my skill goes up?

Generally, when hunting, you should start off with the beginner session. It will become more profitable to move on to standard sessions when your hunting skill reaches the mid-twenties.

It will become more profitable to move from standard to advanced sessions when your hunting skill reaches the mid-seventies.

As I understand it... exp is the same across the categories 

This is correct, exp doesn't change regardless of hunting type, just income averages. For that reason I wouldn't worry about the income aspect much, you can kinda just wing it and see as you go.
