⚔️ Attacking in Torn — A New Player’s Guide
🔋 Basics
-
Attacking costs 25 Energy (or 15 during Valentine’s Love Juice event).
-
You get 25 turns or 5 minutes to finish a fight. Each turn can be a weapon use, reload, item use, or escape attempt.
-
If neither side wins after 25 turns → Stalemate. If 5 minutes pass → Timeout, which counts as a loss for the attacker.
-
Players who are traveling or “hiding out” (inactive 168+ hours) can’t be attacked unless they’re mission targets.
Player Tip: Always check your target’s status before wasting energy. Smart attackers avoid “hiding out” ghosts and focus on active players.
🎯 The Player Model
There are 14 body parts you can hit. Critical hits (Head, Throat, Heart) deal 3.5x damage. Chest, Stomach, Groin deal 2x, while arms/legs are weaker.
Player Tip:
-
Use weapons with Expose mods or Laser sights to boost critical hit chance.
-
Education courses like BIO2410 Anatomy add +3% crit chance.
-
Some players swear by Sylo Tooth for +25% crit chance — huge advantage in chaining.
🏆 Outcomes of Attacks
-
Leave: Best XP gain, defender hospital time is short (15–30 mins).
-
Mug: Steal 5–15% of defender’s cash, moderate hospital time (30–45 mins).
-
Hospitalize: Longest hospital time (3–3.5 hours), lowest XP. Often used for faction wars or bounties.
-
Arrest: Send target to jail if you’re in a Detective Agency.
-
Loot: Defeat NPCs for special items.
Player Tip:
-
Mugging is great for cash but risky — don’t mug the same person repeatedly, Torn nerfed that.
-
Hospitalizing is brutal but effective in faction wars.
-
Leaving is underrated — it’s the fastest way to grind XP.
🛡️ Equipment
-
Weapons: Primary/secondary guns need ammo and reloads. Melee weapons don’t, but can’t use mods.
-
Armor: Reduces damage by percentage. Example: 40 armor rating = 40% damage reduction. Formula:
D(A)=D(I)⋅(1−A/100)
Player Tip:
-
Always carry a temporary item (grenades, boosters). They can swing fights.
-
Armor stacking matters — don’t go into serious fights without at least mid-tier armor.
👥 Group Attacks
-
Multiple attackers reduce defender’s effective stats via Distraction.
-
Aggression = Strength + Speed. Suppression = Defense + Dexterity.
-
Distraction caps at 25 levels.
Player Tip:
-
Group attacks are faction gold. Coordinate with allies to overwhelm high-stat players.
-
Even weaker members can contribute by distracting the defender.
⚙️ Attack Settings
-
Customize attack/defense preferences: weapon usage ratios, reloads, stealth, temp re-equips.
-
Example: Primary 100, Secondary 75, Melee 50, Temp 25 → weighted chances each turn.
Player Tip:
-
Set reloads ON unless you want to risk running dry mid-fight.
-
Adjust defense settings smartly — don’t waste turns on weak melee if your guns are stronger.
🏅 Awards & Progression
-
Kill streaks, chaining, one-hit kills, faction respect bonuses all tie into attacking.
-
Awards like Kill Streaker, Chainer, and Carnage motivate players to chain hard.
Player Tip:
-
Chaining is where factions shine — coordinate attacks to maximize respect gains.
-
Don’t chase awards blindly; balance between XP, cash, and faction goals.
