🕵️ Crimes 2.0 — A Player’s Guide
📖 What Changed
-
Crimes 2.0 went live in June 2023.
-
New players (after Jan 2024) are automatically enrolled. Older accounts can migrate, but once you switch, you can’t go back.
-
Crimes now use two new systems:
-
Crime Experience (CE) → hidden stat that grows your Natural Nerve Bar (NNB) and affects Organized Crimes.
-
Crime Skill (CS) → visible progress bar for each crime, leveling up as you succeed.
-
Player Tip: CE is the long grind — every success builds your nerve bar. CS is crime-specific — focus on leveling crimes you enjoy or that give strong rewards.
🗂️ Crime Categories
Crimes are split into categories, each with medals:
-
Theft → Search for Cash, Shoplifting, Pickpocketing, Burglary.
-
Counterfeiting → Bootlegging, Forgery.
-
Vandalism → Graffiti, Arson.
-
Fraud → Card Skimming, Hustling, Scamming.
-
Illicit Services → Disposal.
-
Cybercrime → Cracking.
-
Extortion & Illegal Production → not yet released.
Player Tip: Each category has up to 10,000 crimes for medals. Spread your attempts across categories to unlock more awards.
🎲 Outcomes
-
Success → Cash, items, CE, CS.
-
Fail → No reward, but no penalty.
-
Critical Fail → Lose CE/CS, possibly jail, hospital, or item loss.
Player Tip: Critical fails hurt — they can drop you a whole CS level. Always use enhancers (like Glasses, Mountain Bike, Paint Mask) to boost success chances.
🌟 Unique Outcomes
-
Some crimes have unique rewards (special items or unlocks).
-
Example: Search the Junkyard → unique outcome gives you a Metal Detector.
-
Unique outcomes are marked with a star and can be time-dependent (e.g., Cemetery success rates change when the groundskeeper is off duty).
Player Tip: Chase unique outcomes early — they unlock new subcrimes and make progression smoother.
🔗 Crime Chains & Progression
-
Crime Chains → Successes stack bonuses to CE/CS.
-
Fail = halves chain. Critical fail = resets chain to zero.
-
Progression bonuses stack from:
-
+10% Criminality faction upgrades
-
+10% Crime Progression merits
-
+10% Education
-
+5% Crime Enhancers
-
+5% Law starter job
-
+15% Company specials
-
Player Tip: Build chains carefully. Don’t risk high-nerve crimes when your chain is strong — stick to safer ones to keep the bonus alive.
📝 Real Player Tips
-
Start with Search for Cash: It’s beginner-friendly and teaches the mechanics.
-
Use enhancers: Glasses, Mountain Bike, Paint Mask, etc. make a huge difference.
-
Time your crimes: Cemetery success rates change with staff shifts, graffiti reputation decays over time.
-
Balance risk: Don’t chase high payouts if it risks critical fails — CE loss sets you back hard.
-
Faction synergy: Criminality upgrades boost CE gains. Coordinate with your faction for faster growth.
-
Event crimes: Seasonal events often tie into crime categories — great for stacking medals and honors.
📝 Note From Your Shadow Pal
I’ve read through the big wiki pages so you don’t have to. Crimes 2.0 is Torn’s biggest grind update — it’s about building chains, chasing unique outcomes, and stacking CE/CS for long-term growth. Real players know it’s not just about cash — it’s about nerve bar expansion and faction synergy. Think of this guide as your shortcut to mastering the new crime system.
