Why isn't the alliance system already a game mechanic? Alliances already exist, so might as well build a system around them. I feel like there's a lot that could be done with an alliance system. For example, alliance wars could be held monthly or quarterly. They could also be merged with the Territory War system, with the winning alliance controlling the best territories until the next war. You could even have a round table of major faction leaders who call the shots. Just let your imagination fly. 😄

Oh boy! Let’s take all the monotony of termed wars and unshifting territories, and consolidate them under allied factions! Isn’t that fun?

Stricky [2010002]

The “imagination” will lead to further consolidation of faction power. I remember a decade ago when specialty factions like nuke, and service providers like NST didn’t exist. Now those markets are cornered and consolidated around them. They set the price, everyone follows. Same thing will happen with codified faction alliances. Everyone will flock to the strongest alliances and the individuals will get shafted

MrSleepy [3353934]

And whats wrong with that? Devs dont have to hold your hand throughout the game, if you want to change things get strong, create allience and contest them.

Also if you make alliences an official feature youd probably see more small scale alliences form which in long run may turn into bigger alliences.

Stricky [2010002]

Devs never had to hold your hand. You’re just adding another bottleneck for a feature that should remain relatively open. Revive factions killed the revive market. Doing it independently now is practically a non starter. Same with the trade conglomerates, stat spyers, and every other market which used to actually be free. Now you want to add another point of consolidation in a game that is 90% under consolidation rule. There’s a reason new players struggle a lot more now, and that’s why

What does faction alliences have anything to do with new player experience. If anything it could create opportunities for lower rank players to form their own allience with few buttons and grow from there. You are jumping into conclusions over something that doesnt even exist yet. Everything can and should be balanced. Torn is actually very balanced in comparison to other mmorpgs. A large group of mediocre players can take down almost anyone and few titans cant do anything against large groups of enemies.  New players can get to insane NW within short amount of time through poker or trading and probably some other niche money making methods. Gym gains were also buffed few years ago to relay less on SE usage and music store was added which significantly increases gym unlocking.

Stricky [2010002]

Your whole premise is new players banding together, in an already consolidated game. Trading can be profitable, if you have a large amount of time to sink into it. but not without outside sources like torn w3b or any of the other market API's. Poker is a gamble. some new players hit big for a while and get a huge net worth, other players lose the little they have. niche forms like selling stat spies, logistics reports, or other markets like that, require a ton of time already invested, as well as finding the market (which has been consolidated) to sell their stuff.

It's not a jump to conclusion, its an obvious red flag that having codified rules around alliances will lead to further consolidation of power. You don't think monarch, nuke, or any other massive faction, couldn't waffle stomp 3-4 mediocre factions? better yet, the big boys could all team up and sort out who gets territories between themselves, and ally against everyone else.

not to mention, those smaller mediocre factions you talk about, don't have the resources to raid, let alone go to war, against these larger factions alone. nor with 2-3 allies. you really think 100-400 dudes with 3 yellow's (at best) between them, is gonna take down a faction fully kitted with RW gear, enough drugs to kill Ozzy, enough cans to fuel a nuclear reactor, and enough med supplies to cure all of Africa? The problem isn't comaraderie, its the consolidation of power to the massive factions, who would monopolize factions as a whole, forcing any new players, new factions, or new anyone, into conforming to the pipeline they establish.

Torn is balanced, to a degree. This place is similar, but nothing like it was a decade ago. API, scripts, and consolidation of wealth/power has forced a solid divide between those who want to play their own way, and those who follow the status quo. Your suggestion only exacerbates the issue

MrSleepy [3353934]

No one is going to hand territories and wealth on silver plate. You have to work your way up from scratch if you care about wealth and power. Or bend the knee and join big family. As far as I know few years ago my faction started from pretty much 0, tons of newbys, and now we are in diamond rank and holding territories. We still have 50% of faction full of newbys and 1-10b players are mostly only few years old. It can be done if theres some desire and activity. 100-400 players cant challenge monarch family, but thousands can. Few titans cant do anything about numbers and 10-100b players gets annihilated in group attacks. You can even fist them to death in large group attack. Diamond rank is only small fraction of entire playerbase and factions in diamond rank are also divided into various alliences. Theres a lot that ambitious newbys could do if the system is designed well. But no one is going to force it up your throat. If you want stay casual and do your own thing why do you even bother reading it? Also you should join elimination and see for yourself what 13 way 10k player clash looks like. everyone except few HoF players get annihilated.

Stricky [2010002]

You keep repeating the same arguments I’ve refuted. You actually prove my point in your first sentence “You have to work your way up from scratch if you care about wealth and power. Or bend the knee and join big family.” you are creating the circumstances where players are forced to bend the knee to an oligarchy of allied factions, or get waffle stomped starting their own.

If you can wrangle a few thousand people to attack me all at once (even the piñata hasn’t broken 600 in queue) then I will personally clear everything I own and send it to you

“Diamond rank is only small fraction of entire playerbase and factions in diamond rank are also divided into various alliences” you’re saying the quiet part out loud. The diamond factions have sister factions in lower ranks. Meaning from gold up you’re likely to encounter a sister faction, which in your suggestion, would also be allied with the other sister factions of other diamond factions.

“Also you should join elimination and see for yourself what 13 way 10k player clash looks like. everyone except few HoF players get annihilated.

ive participated in elimination multiple times over the years. Elimination is absolutely nothing like the faction system. If you think it is you might be retarded. Your suggestion is a constant “elimination” style of faction alliances, which guess what? ALL CULMINATE IN CONSOLIDATION

TLDR; your suggestion is shit and your counter points are retarded. You went full retard, never go full retard

Cheds opinions make sense. I didnt see it while I was typing the response. But from the looks of it he was willing to entertain the idea. So if theres incentive for faction alliences to fight rather than term and monopolize. So its not like the idea is bad, execution is missing. It needs to be balanced, like I said pretty early on to you. Fortunately Im not paid to run this game so I dont have to come up with solutions, but as a player I see that doing nothing, changing nothing just turns game stale. Its been 5 years since last major update which is RW release. It makes sense to escalate and improve it with allience wars. Not this termed war BS we get right now.

Stricky [2010002]

I fully agree that the warring system is… lacking. Alliances on paper look good, but we’re a bunch of shitters, and we’ll somehow find a way to make it work in our favor
