Had this quite a few times in last couple of days. Attacking people at my level (11/12) and my hits are scoring 0.

If your opponent has effective defense which is 14 times or more than your effective strength, then you will hit them for zero damage. This is not a bug.

Thanks!

OrsonPeter [4414502]

So, you see how i mentioned the 14:1 ratio in my initial message? I'm aware of that. Explain how a level 10 with 2weeks online would have a 14x higher defence than my attack? I'll wait.

CloudJumper [1636201]Staff

Level is not an indicator of stats. There are players with billions of stats who have held their level at 1 to farm defends from new players. Your opponent has nearly 20k defense compared to your 778 Strength, which is over the 14:1 ratio that you have mentioned.

Shooby [2510470]

as a developer should you be giving hints at other players stats? Obviously it has to be x14 but stating nearly 20k is more information than you should be giving using resources players don't  have without expending money/JP

Swatsicle [1593313]

It's a bugs & issues thread and the explanation that comrade CloudJumper gave was not accepted by the user - it contained the same information. More information prevents this thread from dragging on any longer than it has to.

Mind your own business, or apply for staff if you think you can do better. In fact, you minding your own business also prevents this thread from dragging on.

Damn dude.

Shooby [2510470]

No excuse to drag someone who didn't make the report into it leaking information they didn't disclose. It's pretty unprofessional using dev tools to make a point to someone being retarded and provide information to the public regarding their account details.

Then again staff have a record of doing this like when bogie exposed d3vl for skimming using dev tools. You don't care because it hasn't happened to you.

Viciously_Grim [2752611]

To make this argument moot I paid for a stat spy:

Full Spy on [AdrianSpb [3425220]](https://www.torn.com/profiles.php?XID=3425220)

Name: AdrianSpb [3425220]
Defense: 18,412
Total: 61,804

Before OP asks how is this possible:

From the Wiki:

Position

Job Special

Lieutenant

Defence boost for army points

Major none
Colonel none
Brigadier none

Stats and age are not always what they seem to be at first glance.

Level is meaningless.

Shooby [2510470]

It's not moot because the people were entrusting in charge of the game are putting out information using dev tools because they're annoyed with someone. You spying after the fact doesn't change that. I really wish people would stop boot licking.

Does a stat or partial reveal mean much to most players? No.  But this is still at worst abuse of tools, at best unprofessional and irresponsible providing information about someone not involved nor player acquired via in game mechanics.

Swatsicle [1593313]

It's battle stats, not the account password.

If the player in question was in a Theater company, you could have had a point. They are not.

The mere existence of BSP or FFscouter or YATA or in-game stat spies invalidates your argument.

Shooby [2510470]

It doesn't because they're not accurate. I got multiple messages in the past two weeks from people asking how far off FF was because they failed trying to claim bounties that should've been easy. Tons of messages before regarding BSP saying I as 20-200m stats when I was 500k tbs. Using game resources and data to determine an estimate is a tool, and not an accurate one (outside of spies which cost money and JP).

A developer directly accessing you're account details is completely different. You're retarded. Congratulations

Eldlyn [2629453]

The irony of the situation is that by putting more messages in this thread, you push the thread higher up, potentially causing more people to see AdrianSpb's defense.  While I agree with you that there may have been better ways of responding to the question, your responses are more likely to have people shut out what you have to say than actually change their mind.

To CloudJumper, it would be best if you were to remove the stats posted in the thread.  Even though the numbers are factual and provide evidence, there are other explanations that could be given that aren't providing stats that are often otherwise hidden.

As a side note, "DevTools" often refers to a browser's developer tools, so what you are referring to would be better classified as "Admin powers."

Shooby [2510470]

That's not my problem. It's the developers for including it just to prove a point to a player. That is not their job, if the player can't understand 14:1, that's their own fault and subsequently false reporting bugs because they refuse to learn other players are going to be objectively better than them despite their assumptions should be handled accordingly.

I don't have to change anyone's mind, bootlickers are going to lick boots and people with a shred of common sense will see how this isn't a professional response  nor a responsible use of the tools they're given/entrusted with.

Eldlyn [2629453]

If people with a shred of common sense know that, and you know you won't change anybody's mind, I don't see the point in posting then.  The people who already know that information won't need to read it and the people who don't know that information won't want to read it.

In addition, I understand that it's not your problem, but I doubt it's the developers' problem either.  The person affected most by this would be AdrianSpb.

Shooby [2510470]

Public accountability is important. Sitting here and staying quiet about misuse of tools or just pure negligence, which happens more commonly than you think; just allows it to become more rampant.  It's also not my job to maintain staff. This is a paid developer who has a boss who's responsibility that is. I'm calling it out publicly because it is irresponsible.

And it is the developers problem because they're doing it. And they're likely to do it again the next time they get annoyed because someone can't comprehend basic math.

Eldlyn [2629453]

That's fair I guess.  What I recommend doing in the future, however, would be to not to start your post with a question, even if rhetorical.  It would be a lot more useful to make a request, whether to correct mistakes made or just for the future.  I don't doubt that you intend well, but there are better ways of going about it.
