Unfortunately another kid has died. I was afraid of copycats might happen but wasnt expecting so soon. Hopefully the kid didnt suffer a brutal death at the hands of his mother.

There is something uniquely horrifying about children losing their lives at the hands of the very people they should have been safest with. To hear a child described as the devil or a demon is deeply upsetting, but even more devastating is knowing that these children had entire lives ahead of them, lives that ended because a parent was experiencing profound psychosis.

Those children were innocent. They weren't evil demons, they weren't responsible for the terrifying delusions of a sick mind. They were children who deserved to grow up, be loved and kept safe.

These tragedies should force us to ask harder questions about how we identify and respond to severe psychiatric illness because the ultimate failure is that innocent children who depended entirely upon adults to protect them are no longer here truly hurts my soul. 

Yah, these people are fucked up. It's very sad. 

We can say damn near everyone who kills someone intentionally, has a "psychiatric illness", unless it's a kid that didn't understand what he/she was doing. 

We can't just start going around, kidnapping people, and locking them up forever. Please, explain what a sufficient response would be to every single person in the world diagnosed with something like bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. Should the government look at everyone's medical records, kidnap everyone with certain diagnostics, and lock them up forever, away from their families? How exactly will we "identify" every potential future murderer, and prevent every single murder? At that point, we may as well allow them to install a million cameras on each street, and spy through our devices, and bug our homes. How about we just respect everyones rights, and if someone does something, justice gets served, without retards turning it into a stupid cause. 

That's a pretty hefty jump from what I actually said. Not everyone with a psychiatric illness is dangerous, just as not every person who commits murder has a psychiatric illness. Having bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or any other psychiatric diagnosis does not make someone dangerous, and the overwhelming majority of people with mental illness are not violent.

I'm talking specifically about situations involving acute psychosis, where someone has lost touch with reality and there are credible warning signs that they may pose a serious risk to themselves or to children in their care. In this case, it's my understanding that the perpetrator referred to her child as the devil, had an intense interest in the Lindsay Clancy case and discussed it at length with friends, and, most significantly, prosecutors allege that she had spoken about wanting to harm her husband and her other children.

Those are extremely concerning signs. The important safeguarding question is whether any of those signs were apparent to other people beforehand and, if they were, whether an opportunity for intervention was missed.

I'm in full agreement that justice should be served. I'm not arguing that a psychiatric diagnosis excuses what happened, or should mean a lenient punishment nor am I suggesting we lock people up simply because they're mentally ill. 

I'm saying that when someone is acutely psychotic and expressing credible threats toward themselves or their children, intervention is entirely different from indiscriminately taking away the rights of people with psychiatric diagnoses.

Tldr; Mental illness isn’t the danger; acute psychosis with credible threats is.

I didn't say you said that, I just said something, and asked what you suggest. Acute psychosis is more common in people with psychiatric illnesses, and from effects of using, or stopping medication, including ones used for those illnesses. 

If we're just talking about obvious cases where the person openly says they are going to kill someone, I'm sure the authorities do as much as they legally can, and the institutions, likely, for the most part, do what is required of them, and legal, for people who suffer from things, and communicate with the authorities, when legal, and needed. 

Pop culture, media, wealth, fame, popularity, attention, friends, love, lust, drugs, etc, fuck up people's minds, and then they get diagnosed some shit, and fed medication, like candy, to "treat" the illnesses, by those same people and their homies, that fucked up their minds to begin with. Even knowing this, most people wouldn't say a word about it, because they are too locked into that culture, and don't wanna give it up. 

If your mental illness is causing you to cause violence to other, especially your own child, theres only one response to take. Execution. Why should society bear the risk of your bad day costing someone their life? Why should the taxpayer fund a lifetime of psychiatric care where this person still has no freedom? For what purpose? They're not going to suddenly wake up one day completely cured of whatever is broken in their brain. Objectively, make sure shit like this has actual serious repercussions and perhaps the TikTok girlies wont be glorifying it online

Court rules you arent mentally fit to stand trial? Then you arent mentally fit to be in civilized society

Just to try to gauge how seriously to take all this, are we similarly horrified about a child dying because their parents wouldn't give them a measles vaccine?

Prison or a mental ward. Anything otherwise is setting a precedent that has been thoroughly discussed in pretty much any social space thats discussed the Lindsay trial. Emotional instability doesnt negate accountability. If youre not sane enough to be held responsible, you'll never see freedom again regardless. Lifetime in prison or a lifetime in a padded cell. Either way is taxpayer expense

Id personally advocate for the death penalty and save the taxpayers the expenses of "humanely" tossing her into a box for the foreseeable decades to come

We are going to see how this plays out. 

With the difference in the cases and associated media spotlight, im more concerned with the outcome of the Lindsay case tbh. Especially if the next trial also results in a mistrial. Its going to be rather difficult to find qualifying jurors that genuinely haven't heard about the case thanks to the media coverage. The odds of a non tainted jury are slim and really exposes a major flaw in our justice system
