STOP AI SLOP ON TORN!

Have we circlejerked over AI enough or will there be another new thread about it once this thread hits page 2?

Why hasn't anyone asked why isn't this thread just a reply to the last one? It's the same thing. "There is a lot of AI on Torn and I think it's ugly."

I'm not saying that "I'm concerned my crime game where I can be jailed for attempting to molest a dog doesn't look professional because it allows AI profile pics" is a shit premise for a thread, just that you wouldn't have to put much effort in to find people with non-AI degenerate pfps that do a lot better job of making things look unprofessional than some pisspoor AI slop.

Speaking of effort, some people put more effort into some AI prompts than the OPs of either of these threads did. 

Conversation around AI, just like any divisive topic, has become one camp jerking eachother off atop their moral high horses while the other camp stuffs crayons in their mouths and vomits the same "muh freedoms, muh triggered, muh AI gf is the only person* who has ever loved me" and I'm of the opinion (since we're sharing our opinions here) that it's run its course on GD.

i think most ppl's issue is with how gen ai trains its model on other people's art. its essentially trained with stolen things and then monetized. if it were just a free fun tool i dont think anyone would have issues with it. Also these ai data centers causing actual rise in semi conductor prices is not something we can just ignore. the positive impact of it so far feels very menial compared to its negatives. 

Personally I hate this shit because it's all people associate neural networks with nowadays, that and the stupid LLMs.
Come on guys, we have so much cooler applications, ones that are undeniably useful like machine vision networks (given that one there is becoming increasingly dystopian).
And yes that is an actual issue because I dabble in the field and hyper focus of the industry on these models has lead to stagnation in research around other uses of NNs from the big boy corporate labs, it fucking sucks.

I agree with everything you said here. AI is trained on stolen art and the infrastructure that powers it is destructive to the environment and causes supply shortages that negatively affect consumers. These are real problems caused by an industry that is moving much faster than the speed of legislation.

People can turn their concern into impact by discussing these issues in their local communities, supporting legislation and organizations which aim to solve these problems, participating in civilly disobedient activities which I am not endorsing but would pop some corn to watch unfold.

Discussing the problems with AI on a communication platform provided by an AI-positive business has got to be among the least impactful things someone who wants to be rid of AI can do to actually solve that problem.

Well like a 50yo dude like myaelf I  have tried to take an old Pic and use them for a profile pic but I dnt have the toold or skillet to do it. But I can tell gemininwhat I want and instantly have it and it did t cost me 2 million or 2 xanax just a few mins time. Thats why I use AI
