There's seemingly this VERY strong belief in a lot of Torn playerbase, especially the long-timers, that 'not maxing your bank merits is a mistake'. I mean even baldr for example suggests to do it right after education...

Without meaning to directly insult anyone, I honestly think it's such a bullshit merit wasting suggestion... I mean.. I haven't seen myself hold more than 100 mil at a time since I started. This is not because I don't make money, this is because new players, if they want to have faster progression, will be spamming HJs left and right, which EATS through your net worth..

I really want to see the "worth" in bank to a new player actually trying to progress, and not just passively make pennies, because, man, if putting even 500 mil in appearently nets you like.. what, 1/6 of what a good ranked war would get you? (At least at my level, really dunno how rank/respect affects rewards) Then no thanks.. Feels like I could genuinely make that 5 mil off of crimes with the additional nerve merit xd

I have reset my merits 3 times already (wow, i know). The first reset I did not know what I'm doing whatsoever and won't get into it, the second I wanted to reset to put those merits in bank interest. Third reset was because my dumbass put the merits in crime progression instead of bank after the 2nd reset, no sleep and such.

I am now at a stage where i have 10/10 edu, 9/10 bank, a bunch of merits here and there, and I am genuinely considering just throwing out another 1000 points to get rid of that atrocious, utterly useless to me bank merit... Of course I'm not really blaming anyone for questionable guidance, but it's a bit shocking to me how praised the bank commonly is.. There are so many better merits to pick there as a new player and brother I swear even putting 2 points in awareness has been having me find items in city every 2 days.. (That one is probably pure rng, I know.)

Though I think my biggest stick in the ass about this is having a title called "HOARDER" thanks to all the resets, lmao. Imagine being known for buying points vro.. 8 ODs in 2 months and no Addict title v. v

who cares what happens when you’re out of HJ range amiright? Max your addiction mitigation too, you OD a lot

If you can't afford to be saving money while doing HJs, then skip on the HJs and just do 3 Xanax a day. It's cheaper and better in the long run.

Also if you aren't making enough money to keep that up from RWing and OCs, then find a new fac. There are many 500k+ (or hell, 1m+) respect factions that would be happy to take you in and give you some REAL RW income.

Finally, focus on only spending on important stuff (splitting PI rental with spouse and the Xanax intake). Wasting money can make growth take longer, which reduces the effectiveness of the bank.

If you need any other advice, feel free to ask! My chats are always open.

There's a whole lot of people in 10* Oil Rigs with TCI and 10/10 Bank Invest with $3 billion on a constant churn who are gonna be really pissed they've been getting screwed over this entire time!

Well, emphasis on worst suggestion for new player.
Of course, you get 1 bil or something in there I can already see the worth

RedGobbo [3619801]

Definitely the worst advice anyone could receive. Infinitely worse than advice to depart this world by dying in excruciating agony by having a bath with an electrical appliance, or receiving advice that it’s a great idea to get involved in a land war in Asia.

The only reason to not have 10/10 merit is you find a better place to invest your money in that beats the bank rate (~70% ROI per year). For example, if you are a very active trader you will be better off using the liquid to trade instead of having it stuck in bank.

Excuse me?! Why did no one tell me before.

All the money invested to get a 10* rig is all for nothing...

I subscribed and bought about 10 donator packs. Did fifty xanax, no happy jumps and I'm still skint. Well by Torn standards anyway. I'm not a degenerate gambler before anyone asks. Blows my mind how people afford drugs, rehab, happy jumps etc. Better than blowing my wallet though!

Gat1Day [4365489]

Good to see a p much same stage player pitch in :)
Same thoughts here, really. I am of strong belief the millions and billions maybe just forgot how little money they had at the start, lmao

It's always amusing to see ultra noobs thinking they know everything and taking shit advice, all the while being in a cache farm. There's a strong belief in the bank because it's the best passive income in the game.

This is why new players should not give advice.

You get a free merit reset at the end of the year. Save your 1000 points.

1. Happy jumps used to be much more beneficial due to their cheaper consumables

2. I did many calcs recently with the happy jump calculator and they really are just a piss take and in my opinion not worth EVER doing. More beneficial to save the cash you would have used, off the top of my head think they cost $24m or so per jump (disgusting).

3. Yes banking merits can be useless but 10/10 banking merits if you have $350m/370m (the cost of a SYM stock block) banking with 10/10 is more profitable than SYM which is the highest ROI (return of investment) stock.

Just do things your own way, eat very cheap candies and enjoy all the money saved.

Wouldn't you say it's equally amusing to see old-timers acting like having 100000% of your TBS automatically makes them a better person.
I'm generalizing here, nothing directed at you specifically to be clear!
And yes, of course,I am well aware that this response will get me hosped 30 times by a multitude of anonymous individuals x)
