Working on a Chrome Extension called "Torn - Extended" and wanted to get other's thoughts, make sure this follows the rules, and see if anyone's down to beta-test when it's ready.

Plan on adding new features like:
- Pets (Pet Items in shops, Pet Training in the gym, a Vet along side the Hospital tab),
- Player Driven Contracts (Factions that enter contract/termed wars have to put x number of Xanax in escrow (basically give it to a player to hold)), if either faction breaks contract terms the other faction gets it)

- Prison Gangs/Contraband/ect

1. Torn - Extended is still Torn. You never go off site. The chrome extension just adds HTML for additional content (Pets, Player Driven Contracts (With Xanax in Escrow to enforce the contract, ect)
2. Torn - Extended will only read from the current torn page your on/make other API requests within the bounds of Torn's API docs - https://www.torn.com/api.html
3. Will have a parallel( ish ) economy since there's not a way to integrate Torn's currency directly (You trade Xanax to a player for $ in Torn Extended) which will let you (for example) buy Dog Treats / Dog Food / Pet toys / ect (items will be injected into the pawn shop inventory and make API requests to Torn - Extended when you make a purchase) from the pawn shop. **I would not be taking or accepting any real money for this. The item trading would just be used as a way to extend the economy.

Have seen some other players with parallel economies so seems okay to do. There's a lot more fun stuff we could add to torn. Could also be an easy way for devs to test out new features.

You'd need to contact staff about what in this is/isn't allowed. As a player I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole even if you were a well known and trusted player. But that's just me.

You just need it to be legal, then I guess try to build it with people that want it, even if that group is small/limited and go from there. A lot of if not all of the external casinos are just scams on the back-end so you could also go hard there, but it's easy to put odds in your favor, be legit, and still profit even with small odds, the problem is you'd need to start with strong odds in your favor/limited bet size to not bankrupt yourself on RNG early on.

Right now, I make bets on wars that exceed your entire networth. So again, you wouldn't be looking for anyone but noobs to start.

You're better off asking a member of staff directly - but this sounds dangerously close to RMT.

You are basically creating your own separate game (made to look like it is part of Torn) which uses Torn items/money for goods in that other economy.

The "parrallel economies" which don't fall foul to this logic would be ones where you are ONLY getting back real Torn content/services back for your real Torn items/money. (So an extension which only shows you additional information about the game itself which is purchased by Torn items is fine, such as FF scouter pro, etc) - buying profile pics etc is fine because you are getting content back which is then put back into the real Torn game.

You can sell a Torn service with Torn items, you cannot sell a non-Torn service.

Beerstein [1322136]

but this sounds dangerously close to RMT.

As OP mentioned, staff have been allowing RMT in the form of off-site casinos for some time now. But yeah, definitely needs to directly ask staff.

Beerstein [1322136]

Off site, on site embedded, it's all external services which to me anyway is RMT and basically the same shit. You're paying for off site services. Put another way, it's no diff than me trading money in Torn for money in another game, pretty sure staff wouldn't let that fly. If they would, I'd like to know cause I got some other games I don't play anymore lmfao.

Beerstein [1322136]

Real money trading. I highlighted in red the part that applies very specifically to casino games, but for whatever reason staff have allowed it before. Still, better to check.

REAL MONEY TRADING: DELETION

The exchange of currency or assets on Torn for real-world money or services (including assets from other games) is strictly prohibited. Real money trading directly affects Torn's economy and donation levels, while exposing our users to fraudulent activities. Staff proactively seek out buyers and sellers both on-site and externally, and no warnings are given for the first offense. Buyers will have their purchased goods removed and be subject to a lengthy game ban, whereas sellers will be banned permanently without recourse.

These third party vibe coded sites are getting a bit ridiculous.

The gambling sites are one thing... But paying Torn currency/assets for some external value (like  pets in another game) just isn't ok.

Kami [2078764]

It's literally exchanging Torn $ for off-site currency before potentially converting it back to Torn $ in both cases. Whatever your point is, it doesn't make sense particularly if you implicitly postulate gambling sites being fine (??? gambling should be the least "fine" of all possible external additions for very obvious reasons).

Beerstein [1322136]

But these third party vibe coded trash dumps are literal games, they're casino games, but they're games.

IDK, it's only gonna get worse, on one hand people that use them are unmitigated morons, on the other hand, still feels like RMT.

Shooby [2510470]

you're not understanding the problem at hand, just like above you didn't understand that RMT is a phrase used that covers a broad category of exchange, outside of just real money.

Shooby [2510470]

Let's not dance around it.

Gambling is fine because people are likely to lose money, people losing money is beneficial for the economy and drives degenerates to spend real money to recoup losses. Just like poker players, RR players, cache gamblers etc. the most common foundation of a blue name is inhabited by gamblers.

The gambling is legal, yeah. But actually buying torn currency isn't. So when they lose their money on these off site scams, they still have to come back to torn to legally buy more money if they don't want to lose their account. Not to mention it's an easy bypass for people who've self excluded.

IndyCision [2597200]

There already was in the fact they would be using the Torn items to turn into "your game dollars" to buy dog food for the pets in your game.

IndyCision [2597200]

Of course you are going off site, your content exists off site. You are just injecting it be displayed in the web browser while looking at Torn pages.

IndyCision [2597200]

The gambling ones are, yes. You buy in with Torn items/money, and you get paid out again in Torn items/money.

OPs suggestion involved the equivalent of using Torn items/money to buy NeoPets accessories. He was just going to make that NeoPet visible on your browser when you visit the Torn homepage.
