Torn City time owes me a DP

The Torn City Times published an image I generated. They explicitly put my username on display in the paper, proving they knew I was the creator.

​However even though  TCT’s stated policy is: "Everyone whose work has been used will receive a DP shortly."  I was not paid

So I reached out to staff  cause who doesn't want free dp

I was than redirected to an email address where they said to email the issue to 

So I did and they replied

Mind you I had contacted Sugarvalves First actually  and was ignored

I still have not been paid

I mean... You didn't really make that image to begin with... You prompted an AI to generate it, hardly what I'd call work.

Nevertheless, pretty sure "Everyone whose work has been used will receive a DP shortly" is referring to those who write the articles themselves (and participants in Auntie Torn and Sinners Confess). Could be wrong, but that's how I've always read it.

I use the generation tools available to me. If TCT has a moral issue with AI, their editors shouldn't publish it. But they chose to publish it, they chose to explicitly credit my name to it, and then they chose to give the payout to a random player who just copied the file. Regardless of how the image was made,

If prompting an AI is hardly work, then screenshotting someone else's post and clicking 'submit' takes zero work—yet that is exactly what the TCT just rewarded.
​As for the policy applying only to writers, the mod  already confirmed that image submissions do get paid out. He explicitly told me that the DP went to the person who clicked submit.

​The issue here isn't about how much effort goes into AI generation. The issue is that the TCT is actively paying out Donator Packs to players who steal  and submit other people's content. Regardless of how the image was originally made, rewarding  players for copy-pasting stolen submissions is broken.

I'm reminded of a fascinating case where a monkey took some selfies using a photographer's camera, and the pictures were used by someone without permission and the photographer tried to sue. Thrown out because copyright belonged to the monkey.

Similarly, images generated by AI belong to the AI. kek



I'd like to elaborate that it's not a joke. There is precedent for it. Someone did an entire comic with AI gen material and lost the copyright of the art because Midjourney made the artwork, not the author.

Fun fact about that monkey case: the court actually ruled the monkey couldn't hold the copyright, meaning nobody owned it. Just like AI in the real world.
​But we aren't in federal court, we're in Torn. Real-world IP law is completely irrelevant to how a browser game distributes Donator Packs.

You can't own ai images, ergo it's not your work

Hey, don't disrespect prompt engineers. It takes a lot of work to type sentences (you would know, considering it takes you 2 damn days to give us the inside scoop), especially for torn players who can barely even read to begin with.

If it isn't my work because AI images can't be legally owned, then it definitely isn't the work of the guy who just right-clicked it. Yet TCT still paid him.

True that! It's just a fun point to make. You didn't make the image, you told the AI to make it and then posted the result. AFAIC, that makes the AI the artist of the image.

How does it encourage people to scrape this site? The screenshot that was submitted wasn't even from this site.
