FAQ
How are guns ranked?
Guns are ranked based on their number of turns to kill (TTK) averaged against 4 level 100 targets with 4B battlestats: Marauder, Hanks def sentinel, Hanks dex vanguard and EOD (all with +2 armour value from the base and +1 perk value for marauder with +2 perk value from base for the others, and PSF armour bonus), attacker and defender also have full merits, full weapon exp, full warring faction perks, all edu’s completed and are on xanax cooldown.
Why make your own rankings, MikePence already made new rankings?
Just to be abundantly clear, making a calculator like this or Mikes takes an enormous amount of effort and I greatly respect what he’s done and wish for no one to send any hate in his direction. However, I cannot take a weapon ranking list seriously if a bleed / stun benelli M4 super is better than a red expose/deadeye sig or a red deadeye/penetrate armalite, additionally I don’t believe an API key should be required to view the rankings at all and finally there are some inaccuracies that I cannot explain - like how in his “execute rankings” some guns with lower accuracy have higher hit chance than those with higher accuracy. Ultimately I’ve been wanting to make my own rankings for a few months, and i’ve learned a lot about how damage works in torn, so even if this doesn’t end up being the most widely used rankings at least I know my calculations are accurate and the rankings make sense to me.
Why four different armour sets, the old rankings only had marauder?
I wanted to highlight that different perks and different base weapons are good in different situations - puncture is better into EOD, deadeye/focus are better into vanguard with its high dex and poor head coverage, Sigs with their higher base damage are better than Enfields against sentinel due to the low dex - so each gun has a TTK and a percentile against each different armour.
What are the best perks / ammo?
In order: Deadeye, Specialist, Powerful, Penetrate, Puncture, Expose, Focus, Sureshot. And for almost every gun PI is the better ammo type, partly due to high armour values but partly because with faction perks, education, weapon merits and weapon exp all guns have a hidden +33% damage so PI is better from the getgo even with no damaging perks on a rifle. HP / TR rounds aren’t calculated because during my initial testing I couldn't find any rifle with any combination of perks for which HP/TR outperformed IN/PI against armoured targets.
Which perks aren’t accounted for?
Weaken, Cripple, Bleed would all be complicated to calculate and bleed doesn’t really factor in how you use a bleed weapon - you normally want to get a good procc and then swap to something else (or reload), just spamming it doesn’t really reflect real world usage and in particular reloading would represent a real challenge to properly calculate.
Why PSF?
Its not just PSF its also a relatively high end EOD set (57 armour (71.25 effective with PSF) and 22% - 32% with set bonus) to be a worst case scenario - If you know a gun can kill high end PSF EOD in 10 turns or less, then you know it’s an amazing rifle and will kill anything else in a shorter timeframe.
Why are some guns equal in rank / turns to kill?
Turns to kill is calculated to two decimal places, sometimes through pure chance the 4 different armour set TTK’s will average out to the same number, I could do 3 or even 4 decimal places to separate out the guns a marginal amount but it won’t really change the rankings and the actual performance is obviously unchanged.
Why no melees, the old rankings had melees?
In the old rankings there were precisely 2 known melee weapons in the top 200, unless a melee has truly exceptional damaging perks it will be ranked very poorly due to lack of piercing ammo and PSF giving most armours a very high rating - additionally, a lot of melee weapons are for utility and don’t especially benefit from being used every single turn. Finally, the way some perks interact with rage and fury is not well documented in the wiki and I do not wish to seek out all these dual perk weapons, buy them, test them, and write hardcoded formulae for each of the possible combinations just to find out they do less damage than a yellow enfield.
Why are your rankings at the top so different?
Primarily because of PSF making targets harder to kill, it adjusts when rifles (most notably arma’s) need to reload, and for armas it means that unless it is truly exceptional it will have to reload against one or some of the 4 defenders which pushes up the TTK and pushes them down in rankings quite a bit. Puncture also scores a lot higher with the added armour values, and sureshot is actually correctly accounted for.
Why isn’t my gun on there?
Specialist weapons have to be able to kill PSF EOD before running out of ammo, as a consequence this largely filters out spec armas entirely and most orange spec tavors. I also don’t rank yellows as there are too many of them with too similar stats, and most shotguns have too bad of an ammo usage to kill/qualify. I am also missing an estimated ~2000 or so good orange rifles at time of posting.
How do I get my gun / a gun added?
Check to see if it already exists on the rankings before contacting me! Note that quality is rounded so it’s best to search for the perks or the exact damage value, if it is not there then please mail me a screenshot of it with CRWR somewhere in the title and I will get it added ASAP.
I found an error in the rankings / calculations / typo in a guns stats
Some guns may have been incorrectly entered and as I don’t have screenshots of every single one to hand I don’t have reference images to check them from, if there’s an error please mail me about it and i’ll look into it. Some of the puncture values might also not be updated correctly from the nerf and there may even be duplicate guns (though I do have checks to try to avoid adding them in the first place)
