The cap was for the start of the fighting period. Honestly with or without it there was a huge disparity in stats. We had applicants with 20k total and 99.9k total. It's kinda impossible to run an event where stats won't play a part, but the vast majority of participants are within 2x each other's stats which means loadout choice, build, temps, etc can be enough to swing it.

We discussed having a cap throughout but given the month-long leadup, that would have required us to prevent noobs training at all for a large chunk of it, which also wasn't something we wanted to do, felt exploitative to lure people into an event and then nerf their natural growth. We picked 100k on the 18th with the idea that people who joined as very new players at the first announcement would likely get naturally to around that around that time, and then the time after the 18th and before the fights wasn't massive.

I should say that the one who has done a bunch of 99k happy jumps since the 18th managed it by being a top new player hitter in elim, and gaining a bunch of prizes that let him afford it, so that's his own hard work, and not just credit card swiping or freeloading in some way, and a pathway that in theory was open to anyone, he's just amazing enough to be able to do it.

(We may in fact do the stats stuff differently next year, but we'll need to discuss how to walk the line between stunting people's growth and making sure it's still fun for everyone)

I didnt get an ok to train until the 21st. Lots of confusing info coming out. Not really a fair fight when people are 100k under other players that were told to train.  Thats not a noob fight. Thats a slaughter.

Is this why my sponsor literally ghosted me?  I hope you guys will make it up to the people who joined this event. Im not impressed.

Before I dive into the round itself I'd like to make a public apology to CrashBeats, LegionDynasty69, SamHail and Ceb, who I've let down in this event with my lack of clear communication and tracking, I hope in future events I can make up for these errors so you can truly experience E Tu Whanau Production Fun!

Every single time I have reached out to Apothe for any kind of clarification of the rules or to ensure something I had in mind was legal, she got right back to me with an answer clarifying the policy. She has been an absolute delight to work with throughout, and more than patient with me continuing to verify that whatever my team was planning was within the rules of the competition.

This is the first time this event has ever been run and she has had to figure things out on the fly. It was also clearly "marketed" as a friendly, fun event more designed to help connect new players with veteran players than an extremely serious, hardcore competition. It's unsurprising given the nature of the E Tu Whanau family that it got sweaty, but let's all take a second to remember that we're being sweatlords over volunteer run "noob fights."

If you are genuinely upset with the volunteer organizer of an event that was marketed as "bum fighting" and has been very clearly lighthearted and fun in tone throughout, you might be better off yelling into the mirror instead. If this event gave you an excuse to make a new friend and learn some more about the game mechanics, you already have won.

its cheesing and this is cant be called fair fight anymore

the cap of stats is important because it is the one who make tournament a fair fight. Not every noobs in diamond faction and not every noobs has an ability to make 99k jump in 3 days.

And the other problem is the clear communication and rules. See i already predicted some one will gain crazy stats in 3 days, but my mentor keep saying in this tournament WE DONT DO CHEESING. Turns out we are the one who getting cheesed.

And i know you have a favorite bum, and i dont know your role in this Bum Fight, but I also saw you as one of the member of Faction organizer which should maintain integrity of tournament instead giving heavily favoring remark to one of participant because of his achievements.

I'm assuming this was about me. so ill address it, I was rewarded for my 528 hits as a 99k stat 52 day old account in Elims, she said some nice things after I won the best noob award 9 (as did HELLA people), and the reward being a very nice happy jump package was awesome. Making it about "favorite bum" is kind of a stretch we literally only messaged about buying/selling cans for elims, she never offered anything for bumfights, and I never asked for anything or advice. I understand some peoples sponsors weren't around 100% of the time and that sucks for sure. Luckily for me I can't relate, I have built a fantastic relationship with WOOG and we have a friendship that is going to last for a very long time.

It feels like you guys are taking away from what this was supposed to be about, some noobs learning combat stuff, getting advice how to jump, farm merits, and having a fun little tourney at the end and keeping the items as well.

Apothe [3463955]

I didn't want to impact the participants growth anymore than I already had placing the event so far in advance due to my personal holiday I took and Elims.

The idea was for everyone to be bellow 100k stats at the 18th of September Weigh in point and then allow for training throughout the event, only one participant failed that weigh in. Clearly I wasn't clear enough with this as half of the field stayed at 100k and the other half shot ahead.

We've had round wins by people still below 100k using smart tactics and strategies but I agree that stat disparity has creeped out alot.

I appreciate the feedback and I'll think on doing this better next event.

Apothe [3463955]

I apologise for this. In the future and for future events I will try be clearer with the rules and key dates to limit this confusion and frustration.

I appreciate the feedback

Apothe [3463955]

I appreciate the feedback and what you've written.

For the next event I'll be looking at supplying clear "Rules packs" to each participant to make sure everyone is on the same page and to allow for any alterations to be clear and accurate across the board.

I'll take into consideration the stats information and look to improve that next time with either seeding or seperate brackets for stats to try create a "fairer" fight

Not once i mention you in comment and not once i mention i have any problem with you, but here you are keep implicating yourself.
I guess you really like the  spotlight, huh?

I dont care about your relationship with woog or anybody, what i care is about the organizer's communications and responses (or lack of) about the rules and the tournament they held.

and spare me "we are here as noob to learn strategy, and etc etc" when you gain more than twice from limited 100k stats, you can shoot me 3 times and ill be dead anyway, what strategy we talking about here?

But dont worry at the end of this tournament you will get the 1st prize and the spotlight you want, while i will be fade into the background

DR_CT [3936135]

Big breaths boys

Round two has started!

I'm happy to receive any and all feedback! I want to run more events in the future and I'll take my learnings from this event and use them to sculpt the best events I can for the Torn community!

Staypufd [4430997]

100% a Letter to all bums or maybe even a discord for this would have been SWEET, would have have probably saved some communication errors.
