I think people using web browsers to log in to torn get an unfair advantage with their HtML renderin’ and JavaScript executin’ new fangled tech.  Everyone should have to telnet in to port 80 and manually type their GETs and POSTs like it was in the old days.

Quit being childish.

to make it truly fair we should have mail correspondence with ched where we send in our actions and he returns the outcome

Another problem is, how this could be implemented, for example, take FFscouter, if third party scripts were banned, Glasnost [1844049] (creator of ffscouter) could still use the script privately and it would be hard to know, since it doesn't make any torn requests. To detect third party scripts, torn would have to scrape every persons net requests going outward, and that would not only be very hard to manage with 100k daily players, its also privacy invading

Can we ban those mass mailing scripts too, because they are fucking annoying.
take ur advertisement to trade chat and not my mails - thanks

I don't see a problem with scripts, even the equipment one you're upset about.

There's also the novel concept of enforcement, how do you enforce/detect scripts that just aggregate readily available information? KATs equipment script works because lots of people are using it

Halyangx [1867864]

That's how you get caught and go to fed jail haha.

On serious note, yes, technically they still could. But if these scripts were banned, using them would come with the risk of punishment.

Once a ban is announced, the number of people using them would massively decrease because most people aren't going to risk getting themselves fedded over a script (I think). The game survivied without scripts in the past, and definitely can survive without it, imo.

Also, as bogie mentioned in the other thread, most Torn players actually do abide by the rules.

So unless everyone suddenly becomes a secret script monkeys, you don't need to catch 100% of users for a ban to work. Even if enforcement isn't perfect, the overall use and impact of these scripts could still be massively reduced.

ched did stop the anonymous bounty reveal script/service because it circumvented intended game mechanics. I don't see why the same wouldn't apply here.

Did give me a chuckle, at least it wasn’t poor mail merge with an unsubscribe footer.
1.5m is cheap for someone of your stature

Promaxian [4058902]

Yes, most people would stop using it but that gives the players who dont stop an extra advantage. Obviously, there cant be a perfect solution but i just wanted to note that there would be a problem implementing it. Anyways, i think that third party scripts should still be allowed, but with restrictions like a script cant be used as a replacement for a ingame function

Also,

:)
