probably more collective work into the immense pile of scripts than on the game tbh. It's like bethesda fans saying the game is good but they started their playtrough by following a guide into a "vanilla+" mod pack with tons of bug fixes...

just look at the chat 3.0 update, I still can barely scroll up the input text window, can't even drag it on pc?! enough said....

Keep in mind if you are using that one that a large % of the public is using, the guy basically does a mustache villain TOS about what they will use your API key for. So while it may make some things easier for you, it also puts your info at risk

death-1984 [2203781]

Pardon my ignorance but what info is being put at risk with a public access api key? Unless we're talking about a different script

Kalends [2032147]
  1. its a public api key only and the public pool is limited to public selections only so no it doesnt put your info at risk
  2. your api key being used for anything except account verification is something you can opt out of on my website's account page
  3. its not a mustache villain TOS, I was just basically copying stig's cache TOS for my public-pool (+ making mine opt outable) since (im lazy) it was the easiest to implement without a ton of complexity or performance trade-offs in my key selector / rate limiter and I didnt want to have to send 2.5k notifications or delete 2.5k keys every time i add a new PUBLIC feature (it was my thought that private selections warrant extreme care but public ones dont) so i figured a catch-all opt-out solution for public selections would be a good compromise, especially since i was rushing to finish and release before elims
  4. yesterday I was reading through the TornPal controversy stuff from like last year and I did realize that y'all do seem to have trauma regarding this so I've been actively working on a more specific / transparent TOS since some people seem to care about that (not saying its wrong to care ive just never personally cared how my public keys are used just how much of my rate limit they took) and thus its worth not being lazy and actually writing it up, I'm just a bit busy with exams at the moment and im a bit of a perfectionist so it'll take me a few days
  5. not planning to like run a mugbot or anything like that, I will never use the keys of my script users for that kind of thing, and in the update im working on that will explicitly be added to my TOS making it impossible for me to later go back on this

if there are any other concerns feel free to let me know and i'll be happy to address them or update my TOS to fix them

Having quit a while ago and coming back recently I have to say I am a bit disappointed in how relevant FFScouter is. I feel stats being hidden made wars and attacking in general far more interesting. It was actually possible to underestimate someone and lose to them. Now there is no thinking required.

Why not just have our battle stats be public at this point? It basically already is for anyone aware of FFScouter

I've been playing without scripts because it is more fun, but it is a bit demotivating hearing every time someone else is getting an edge by using a script that tells them what to do

Same with the weav3r site. Just bring back bazaars as they were? Why do I need to go to another site for functionality that Torn used to have? And it's allowed too?

If gaining new functionality from a script is the norm then either add it to the game or get rid of it completely

Kalends [2032147]

Also for context, both NS and 39th have had their own private loadout recording tools for a long while so there may be some unconscious bias against the existence of a better one being public.

Although, having read through the TornPal stuff yesterday I do see why some people could legitimately take issue with my vague/lazy TOS which is why i'm taking the measures listed above to resolve those legitimate concerns as I just want to make and share cool stuff and don't want to exploit anybody's trust/info or whatever

Cursed [1901987]

i completely understand what people could be upset about this

but logically if seeing someones loadout in advance is an advantage isnt seeing their stats? if loadout style scripts should be banned then shouldn't we also be eradicating BSP / FFscounter and tornstats spy swaps?

I play this game about 50% with 0 scripts to use, the other half I have few minor scripts... and the difference is already MASSIVE.

Even as simple thing as torntools last action timer with second accuracy on the miniprofile is a huge helper... honestly I dont know why dont they just implement it in the actual game.

Generally speaking, scripts should not bypass game mechanics or give huge competetive advantage, but so many scripts are literally doing just that. in my opinion staff should implement changes so that a non script player could atleast compete with those scripts.

Like why am I forced to install scripts just to keep up with players who use them.

Trying to join a fight on a mug target that is timing out of hospital with 0 scripts... well good luck fella! be happy if you manage to see the "start fight" button even appear. Not to mention being able to join the actual fight... and even less chance to make actual hit at them.

Even the weav3rs script that shows top3 bazaars... is literally working against that Ched intended.."underground black market" ... they just rebuild the old state that works through 3rd party site, And yes I do use the site itself, just not the script - would love to not have it as option though.

Every time I see new script such as the loadout viewer I get disgusted...game moving step by step towards players not having to play the game and have all the information handed to them on a silver platter. 0 brains required.

Gone are the days where brain input, smarts and actual effort got you advantage,..

EDIT: Well not quite gone, just advantage from that is much much less now.

MAGNUS [1585839]

Fuck scripts, never used em never will.

I prefer raw dogging this game like it's 04 as the good lord Ched intended.

FiBraTorn [4033137]

I've only played this for the past 9 months and i already share the opinion of both WompLong [3853956] and SirJux [2695126].

It is my belief that if something becomes so general widespread use either include it in the game or remove it entirely. Mind you, I use all of the above mentioned websites as well as some travel planners. But I would like NOT to. I would like to just need to use the browser to play the browser game. one website. no scripting. But I'm not naive, I know there will always be ways to "exploit"/"improve" the game with scripts and I know someone will always do them. but at the same time, I would like to play this game on the intended website/server without having to log in to other websites to keep up. because the truth is: yes, we all use them to keep up. FFScouter to not waste E and select the right FF for war. Maybe even to double check bounties. weav3rs site to sell AND BUY stuff to traders/bazaars. Travel planners to know where/how much profit to gain.

Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe I'm too much of a noob to really appreciate.

Even so, if everyone is using them... maybe there's a reason? maybe they should be added to the game? maybe it's a mechanic ppl want? and if the devs don't want them... maybe provide an alternative? a good enough alternative?

It's a fair point but at the end of the day it is just like the gun shop employee reporting loadouts to their faction, but at a larger scale.

The script can only see what players have already seen. This could be done without a script, but who has the time for that.

SirJux [2695126]

having hard time to keep it short :D

main thing to take is... just because you are not willing to put time into this, doesnt mean some1 else is not gonna do it. Such powerful tools effectively remove the option for such niche services.

Most tools make your life easier, but are actually bad for the game, as they just take playing out of the game. Skillgap so to say should be there, but with every tool it is disappearing more and more.

I’ve grown to understand your point over time, but I think the second sharing stats with enemies for war became normalised, it all kinda went out the window. Obviously not every faction does (we never did) but at that point stat spying for war became mostly irrelevant, and the natural progression is a centralised database that tracks stats, which is where FFScouter came in.

Moving forward, people’s loadouts were hidden and started being shared either via making test attacks, or sure, gun shop perks, the natural progression is to make a database and centralise the data.

To a lot of people, the game is based around minmaxing the best they can. I agree some scripts are too much, but some are genuinely beneficial. If there was a way to kill FFScouter across the board, as much as I don’t want to lose access to it now, I’d be okay with it. On the flip side, if TornW3b was removed I’d probably never sell items myself again.
