High CPU usage when certain crime opened on Opera GX

For a while I've noticed that my CPU has been spiking on Torn, upon further inspection, I have realised that the CPU spikes whenever opening up a crime with an animated banner, the crimes I've seen this effect on so far are:

 

 

  • Search For Cash (Grain)
  • Bootlegging (When copying a CD)
  • Shoplifting (CCTV Effect)
  • Pickpocketing (Moving Banner)
  • Card Skimming (No moving or animated banner but CPU spikes anyway)
  • Burglary (Moving Background)
  • Hustling (Dust / Smoke effect)
  • Disposal (Animated Water)
  • Cracking (Whenever cracking a code, the CMD window appearing causes CPU spike)
  • Forgery (When animation plays in the banner)
  • Scamming (Animated banner causing CPU spikes)
  • Arson (Animated banner causing CPU spikes)

 

All the crimes above have something animated in the banner which causes the CPU spikes.

 

 

CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X3D
Browser: Opera GX (Version 135.0.5973.94)

Hello, does this issue replicate on a different browser, in incognito/private mode?

 

Additionally, please try setting your browser hardware acceleration setting to the opposite of what it's set at (turn off if it is set to on, turn on if it is set to off.)

Hi, thanks for the reply!

 

I've checked on MS Edge (both - normal and incognito) and that problem does not occur.

 

I turned off hardware acceleration on Opera and the CPU spikeage disappeared, but it occurs when it's on (both normal and incognito mode).

This is likely an issue with the Opera browser you are using, since you are not seeing the issues on Edge. You can either switch to a different browser to play on, or check your Opera GPU settings to see if there’s anything showing as an error or issue there.

If you disable GPU acceleration, then all of the load is falling on your device's CPU. So it is fair for the CPU usage to spike in this instance. You will have to either live with the CPU spike if you don't want to use GPU acceleration, or you can turn on the setting.
