I dont know if its a new feature, but it seems that threads can now be out-right deleted instead of being sent to graveyard to rot.

I spotted it due to the upvote/downvote system mainly, I had been sucked into a thread in discussions that featured a degree of arguments which had resulted in a fair bit of voting.. theres now no trace of these votes on my feed & the thread is MIA.

I had a quick look through my own recent posts and theres no record of the three posts I made in the tread either. My posts were replied to & quoted so they definitely existed once upon a time.

So my points for discussion are, have people seen this before? Is there any sort of parameter that flags a thread for outright deletion rather than graveyarding? And if deleting is a thing, why bother with having the graveyard at all?

Oh. This is new to me. The criteria seems a bit skewed. A quick stroll through the graveyard flags up a ton of excessive vulgarity and racially/religiously motivate hate speech. Compared to some of it (see "Hitler had the right idea"), the thread I was posting in was rated U. Its an interesting insight into the sort of things that are flagged as needing to be rapidly removed from torn.

Deleting threads isn't a new thing... this always existed in the old system too.

The issue with deleting threads is that the user may not know WHY it was deleted, the GY exists to give a reason for their thread being removed that they, or others, can then read.

Deleting a thread is used to quickly clear out spam where graveyarding isn't necessary (for example, if a user gets deleted and has a load of spam posts... is quicker and easier for staff to usually just straight up delete them, rather than GY each and every one, plus it helps reduce some spam in a sense...)

nothing new, any of it

yes, stuff (when necessary) does get deleted

yes, the criteria is very subjective, it is based on whatever mod/admin happens to be reviewing the thread, it is just the way it is. Some things are very hard to be crystal clear and have binary rules, hence it becomes subjective.

it happens, forget about it and move on
