There's also running a company (in some cases profitable, not in all though, mind you) and stocks. But both of these require a substantial amount of money to start earning money with it.

So these are good "late"-game ways.

Don't forget the 100 items every 24 hours from Bits and Bobs (beer, plushies) or the Sweet Shop (lollipops). You can make 50K/day profit doing this and it only takes a few seconds.

Try and get to level 15 as soon as you can if you want to make money as then you can fly and trade. Flying takes away your control panel on the left hand side, but you get to make decent profit from the items.

good ways of making cash:
-have a lot of cash to begin with
- buy donator pack with real money and sell them
- play the facebook game tornlite and reach lv 5 (or 10?). You get a goodie bag for normal torn. Sell it.
-rent a private island, buy a suitcase and travel to other countries to buy flowers and plushies
-draw a comic for torn and send it in
- get a job in the grocery or a high star sweet shop and use the job points for cans, then sell them
-play spin the wheel
-spend some merits on awareness and visit the city page twice every hour to find some valuable items
-refer other players to torn and get points, valuable items and donator time when they reach level 10

Buy anything you see for cheap and sell it on for more.
Learning what is cheap though may take a bit of studying the market.
Any item in the game sells if the price is right so if you see any item cheap get it.
