So, weapons and armour caches are almost here? Great, but where the hell is Crimes 2.0? I decided to go and check the last newsletter and Crimes 2.0 was 70% complete and in "full swing".
Now I know an update is an update but could those who mainly play the game for the crime aspect get an update? The last 2 threads on the subject have not received any response from Ched so either it's close or he's given up and moved onto something else.
It's all a matter of balancing priorities, it's tricky!
For example, over the last few months we've been focusing on some really important stuff which doesn't really become apparent to the players.
- Improved security system, ensuring the 2FA process works perfectly. - Automated account recovery system to handle an influx of people who want to come back to Torn and have forgotten details. - Improving sessions system so we can change to different forms of transactions / locking and finally get rid of the "You cannot be logged in twice at the same time", also will improve site speed (esp. gym / crimes) - New polling system which will allow the sidebar (i.e. money, events, icons e.t.c.) to update live without needing pageloads / refreshes. Eventually allow us to have the sidebar never reload after logging in (way faster site speed). - Activity log which merges all current logs in to a single system (a big project, incredibly powerful tool) - Adjustments to new player process (refills are no longer a thing, replaced with gains after completing missions) - Bugs, bugs and more bugs. - Minor changes too small to announce. e.t.c.
As well as the long term projects that we're working on now... - Torn android application which has now entered beta (iPhone one to follow suit) - A new reliable Torn text editor to replace the current one (actually a crazy big project) - New weapons & armour / bonuses (inc caches) - New chaining, destructive and competitive warring - Brand new bookie system - Poker 2.0 - Chronicles - New NPCs / NPC looting / new group attacking mechanics e.t.c.
And other projects that are moving in and out of frozen status due to bottlenecks that we're resolving by recruiting more HTML5 developers... - New contract agent (really cool, but way more technically challenging than Duke) - New crimes system (biggest ever project, each individual crime is as complex and deep as the entire current crimes system)
And things that are pretty much planned out and I'm excited for, but can only start once other priorities are completed. - Drugs 2.0 - Travel 2.0 - Territory updates - Lots of other 2.0 e.t.c.
I realise that there is already a large list of things to be done, but would it possbile for us to get a "Updates" page that contains major / minor changes and their progress. That is updated weekly and contains a changelog including small updates such as bug fixes, and minor QoL changes being made to the game.
I realise something like this wouldn't be a priority but I think it would certainly help the community with update transparency and if we could see weekly what progress has actually been made it would stop a lot of these questions & allow a lot more discussion about updates that are coming.
All well and good but when updates are so few and far between it frustrates players, it makes us feel like nothing is getting done. We keep asking for a changelog so why can't you give us one? You just did your post so surely it won't be too hard to create a system that allows devs to quickly type a change in and mark it as a bug fix, change, or update?
You say it is the "biggest ever project" but in the newsletter it was 70% complete. If you're just going throw random percentages at updates why bother? It's just more frustrating.
The way i read it he said that crimes 2.0 is prioritized and work on travel 2.0 and some other projects can't begin until they are done with the prioritized projects.
I didn't see any announced about the stock market, when we add shares for sale... it used to be a queue.. now we don't, and we don't know when it changed
Happy to see something on the matter, nice to get a little update. I am very excited about crimes 2.0, but it seems as if they are working on a ton of other things to make the site run more smoothly as well, which is nice. Looks like they have a lot going on and I am happy they are working hard at it. Just keep the updates coming :)
