You should probably move this to company discussion. Also, do you have any stock? Your customers can't buy anything if you don't have anything to sell

Unless he's paying staff $500 a day I think he still has work to do.
Yipes. Companies are a money sink and not a money earner when they start out. sometimes they are a money sink for years. Good luck trying to make it work out. Here are just a few things I have learned over the years of running a business. These are just snippets of ideas that might be helpful to know right away. There is so much to learn and you are best served by looking at the wiki on running a company.
Each day you will get a company report telling you how you did that day. Your customer base will increase with time and good management. Start taking classes in business management so that you can start using the bonuses given to directors once the classes are completed. They make a huge difference in your efficiency.
Until you have stars you don't get any perks and I don't believe you even get trains. However as soon as you get a star you will get a train a day and with each increasing star, you get more trains. Use your trains daily, but if you can't, then make sure you don't let them accumulate more than what you are able to store. It costs to use the the trains but it helps the company.
There is a conundrum with recruitment. People might be more willing to work for you because you will allow them to have a certain job they desire. However, if they are not suited for the job, then their efficiency is lowered and they are not able to attain 5 bolts. If they don't have 5 bolts, they bring your productivity down and that will not increase your popularity. You make money based on popularity (how many customers you bring into your business.) However, if you do not please your employees, they don't stick around, so you have to find a middle ground between giving your employees what they need to keep working for you without jeopardizing your ability to grow your business.
Your business grows by gaining experience and earning money. You know you are growing by getting stars. The ways stars are awarded is dependent on the experience and money that is earned. Every restaurant with your same amount of experience is competing for the slots designated for each star level. For example, if you get to the 3 star level in experience and there are 50 slots for 3 star restaurants, but there are 65 restaurants that all have enough experience for 3 stars. The tops 50 earners get a 3 star rating and the other 15 will be at 2. You will go up and down with your star rating depending on earnings so you want your employees to be happy so they stay working. You need working employees to earn money.
I know I already talked about trains, but this is another thing to think about trains. Sometimes employees are willing to pay for trains. However, other employees expect it is part of their job. Selling your trains can supplement the cost of training, but there are some employees who will not stick around if you are not training them. Figure out what sort of boss you want to be. Are you generous and train for free or do you charge? make sure they know before you hire them. having employees start and stop right away is bad for business. Try to hold on to employees once you get them.
There is so much more but these bits is some of the main things you will need to think about right away. Good luck. you have an uphill battle ahead. I honestly think you should consider just trying to sell your company and wait. You need to put a lot of money into a new company so if you have no way to make money in Torn it might be tough to try and make it work. There is no shame in quitting and starting once you know a bit more about what you are doing.
A few things...
Trains are now free and not as detrimental to income as previously. I'm guessing that the staff in this company are under the requirements so I would suggest rotating trains in order to develops all off them to the required level. Doesn't actually take that long in lower costing companies.
Also if people want a certain stat trained you can switch there role to what they want boosted and then back again with no Ill effects to the company.
Popularity is purely your income in comparison to the number 1 company of the type. Customer loyalty is a hidden stat that is affected by many things in the business. This is what decides how busy your business is.
Companies don't have to be a money sink. Careful recruitment and sticking to your guns on salaries may make it harder to find staff but is not impossible. Pays off in the long run especially in a new company where you are waiting to gain the experience
Huh! Funny I haven’t paid attention to a loss or not from trains ever. I just keep enough money in the company to pay for wages and advertising, so the cost of trains hasn’t been a deal forever. I never noticed the cost was no longer charged. Interesting.
They used to be 10k per train that was rrmoved a while ago.

Your fingers only type garbage huh? This is why the forums hate you.
To the OP, managing a company is a difficult and tedious process. Placing employees in positions that fit is a pain. Finding employees is even harder. It is very possible to have a profitable company if you have the dedication to do so. Running a company is a slow game bro. You will earn cash if you put the time and effort into making your company better every day. Just don't expect huge profits right off the rip.
