New Market - Selling Usernames??

Names Like: _Facebook, lnternet (with an lower case L), Google (with a Capital i), Youtube

So obviously when a new player joins, the can select their referral. There has been an uptick in people changing their names to these because eventually they'll get the benefits of referrals within usually about 4-6 weeks after a new player his level 10 benchmark.

I've had some conversations with them about how effective its been so far. Some said that its only been a few referrals here and there. Surprisingly, with others it was quite the opposite, getting as much as 1-2 Dozen a week.

Seeing how there is an actual direct benefit to having these user names, then there must be a value. The current people holding them are doing so for a reason, and haven't let go of them yet. They will soon once they've benefited and are finished with them.

yep the names do matter alot when it comes to getting referals. ive gotten a steady stream of referals sense i took this name, but i know of people that gotten 2-3 times more then me. thou even if you get alot of referals, its just a tiny % that get to level 10. im still waiting on my first level 10 on this name.

ive gotten a steady stream of 2-5 per day at average. thou i know people that gotten nearly 20 per day and already gotten theier first level 10.

Just say no.

If you name is like Instagram with an L its not going to give you referrals, since its spelled Lnstagram, and not Instagram.

Oh i see what you mean, and the dash would put it at the top of the list instead of placing lower. Makes sense.

Maybe would make it a higher valued name VS lower value

- <-- stuff like this is lower value then words. to get first in the drop downlist you want to have the lowest value first then the correct name.

as the search will always the name that is closest to what you typed then + the lowest value of the first word wich in my case is a -

this makes it so when you write facebo my name will show up before the real full facebook name as my have the correct words and my has a lower value in the start wich puts me on top of the list.

anything added more on to the name will just put you further away from the top list.

for example -facebook_ will put you away as _ <-- will make your name not be identical to the full name.

so ya use this guide to make your own good referal names. there probly plenty more to be used. you just have to be smart about it and know how the system works.

there are probly alot more, just think of what you would have written when you signed up to torn and it asked you where you found torn.

I get a very big variant of referrals, i will always get at least 1 per day. The most referrals i have gotten is 9 in one day, randomly a Thursday, not sure why?

I have also spoke to Staff about these names, as some of you already know if a player is long time inactive or in federal jail there name can be bought for a calculated amount of points.

However names such as Google and Facebook cannot be bought as they have been locked by the big Chedburn himself.

They are locked due to the fact that they receive so many referrals that it is unfair. The second reason the name cannot be taken is because a referral counts as a friend meaning the account is active.

If you cant change your name using the name change page then it cant be changed, even staff dont have the ability to change names.

How do you even get a referral?

Google is already in fed jail. So doesnt matter if he gets referrals. You still cant have his name.

When people sign up and the game asks who reffered them they say Facebook and my name comes up.

Yes, you can still tell your friends to join and get them to enter your user name or ID. That's how it's meant to be done.

So essentially you're admitting to abusing the system, right?

I have more than 2 dozen signups, majority don't make level 3. But, I have 2 over 10 and one that's close so hoping for that 3rd merit soon. Don't know how I'll get the pyramid scheme but hopefully one day. My method doesn't rely on mistaken identities or clever wordplay(like "Nobody"), but instead a promise to invest in the players in a constantly visible spot. So, it's a lot more time and money invested to get them going. But, I enjoy roleplaying as a nice and helpful person so all good.

ya i do send money sometimes to players when they sign up. but ye alot of people quit before even level 2

It's just tricking people into referring you which shouldn't be allowed.

It's been brought up multiple times to ched but he feels that the 1 true variation of them would be banned and the rest are acceptable
