I am a very young player compared to some and am very curious about what torn used to be like. Im sure other players like myself are also curious to see what torn used to be.

Screenshots more than welcome

I don't have any screenshots, but waaay back in the day, this game was actually called Torn City. Dog fights were a thing. You used to be able to get points by upvoting torn on a few different surveys. Having a couple million bucks was considered to be a lot of wealth. There even used to be brown outcomes in crimes! Vicodin was the favorite in what were pretty destructive faction wars. It made attacks cost less energy I think. I often wish I hadn't gone inactive for long periods of times....

Edit: Something else I remembered! In order to play Russian Roulette you had to complete a mission to get a S&W revolver!

You were on top of the world in a Palace.. There were no "booster cooldowns"... dp's sold for a hot 2.5 million..

Found this super old warring screenshot in my old phone the other day.. #BringBackWarring

Edit: To those unaware, there was a warbase in old times, you couldn't just chain on any target you wished. The warbase had a limit of 500 enemy members (599 if you declared war on a 100 man faction while being at 499 already). You could only chain on the targets in the warbase and you had to hospitalize for the hit to count. There were no bonuses beyond 100 hit chain, so that's where the chain used to drop and restart.

There were chain bars as you can see below, the more bonuses and hits you did on the opponents, the more respect your bar had. To win a war, you needed to have 'x' respect more than the opponent's bar. There was a formula for 'x' but for most wars it was capped at 2.5k. Ranked wars were possible if you declared a war on any faction which was up to 25 ranks above you and the regular hits granted you 2x more respect (was later nerfed down to 1.5x). IBB were the masters of ranked wars and farming and they farmed all the way to HoF starting from 400ish rank(?).

You couldn't unset the faction upgrades back in the days, so once the respect was spent, it was done. So you always had to keep a buffer of respect, like Merc's have 11k respect in reserve below. DBs were arguably MUCH more potent back in the days, coz you could actually zero down a HoF faction with a single well timed DB.

There were no cooldowns for SE (stst enhancers) and a broken stock market which could be manipulated. So those people mostly own HoF factions, unique properties and hundreds of billions to trillions in stats.

Thank god they were level capped so the game could remain balanced.

Chain timers were hidden, 5 min to break a chain so you had to organize it outside torn with timers etc. The highest chains were around 15k and could take a week or more of careful babysitting. Also this was against targets that would fight back. All you had to go to break a chain was disable your opponent for any period of 5 minutes.

Also, you had to hospitalize for it to count. So targets were limited.

The fact that Duality was in that shot confirms it's legitimacy.

Also, NR was the centre of trolls and thought bullying 12 year olds were fun. Or was I just the only 12 year old being bullied in my JokerBoy days? haha

Also,

ANONYMOUS gave us missions, not DUKE. I don't think the missions explains who anonymous was and why he introduced you to Duke. IDK if the mission screen is different for new players.

Funny you should post this because we have an article in the works by Josephine with a tonne of old screenshots in where she takes a look back in time at ye olde Torne. Look out for it in the coming weeks. Also, if anyone wants to send me their old screenshots for inclusion please do so!

The first attack system was based around Strength, it was the only stat the people really trained until the revamped it in 2005, even then people's HP and Damage were jacked.
