This makes sense?

I have noticed that when I start a new EDU course the duration of the course does not reduce with benefits of EDU reduction (e.g. a WSSB block, merits). Noticed this has happened for a few of the courses completed. Thought this was a change, so read through the changes and there was nothing that mentioned that any benefits towards reduction in EDU duration is applied before or after. Before meaning, what is displayed under "Length" the value (e.g. 18d 23h 2m) already has taken into the consideration the benefits. After meaning, the benefits are applied at the point of starting the new course.

I started a new course today - Corporate Strategy - which has a length of 18d 3h 27m (or c.435hrs). With a WSSB block already in my inventory, this entitles me to "receive a 10% time reduction for all newly started courses". Also have Merits to reduce EDU duration but have not factored this in the following statement. With the WSSB block, this would reduce the duration of the Corporate Strategy course from 435hrs down to 391.5hrs (or 16d 7h 36m) which is 10%. Now starting the course, Torn returns 18d 3h 23m which implies the WSSB block benefit was not applied.

Anyone shed some light on this?

I believe the WSSB reduction is already applied. 18d 3h 27m is the length of the course, including the WSSB reduction.

You can see the default course lengths, and the formula used for time reduction, on the wiki: https://www.torn.com/wiki/Education

The length of the course displayed, already takes into account any reductions you may have from a stock BB or from merits etc.

Did you have that stock before starting Business Management and module "Introduction to Business?If you did not you will not get the 10% reduction. Because it has to be intact before starting any of the modules for that course alone. It also states that on wiki

"acquiring the WSSB benefit block will reduce the length of any subsequent courses — having no effect on a course that has already been started."

Yes. Have had the block before the start of the course.

So that I understand that, having the WSSB block (and merits etc.) changes and displays the duration of the course before your start it?

Or, is it that when you start the course, at that point you start it, the bonuses are applied to shorten the length, and provides the 'new' duration?

It's the former, what you see is what you get. It was changed some time ago, probably because there were a lot of bug reports from people who couldn't understand how the stacking of the perks works.

Just to add a bit more, you can test this further yourself by splitting your WSSB block and checking the course length, you'll see the length without the WSSB reduction :)

I will try that once I land back in Torn. This could be written clearer somewhere in the help files and an indicator (i.e. the value after Length on the course description) be another colour. Also, the description on the page (the help paragraph) explain this better. An improvement that could be made, perhaps.
