When do you people realised that you're addicted to Torn?
I'm sure many new players registered and said wtf this game have more words than my Facebook and quit instantly. Players around 15-30 age have a high chance of quitting too if they don't really understand the mechanics of this game. For me, I'm only clicking the sell copied media crime and attacking random new players at that age, and almost quit as this shit is boring. Who even sell copied media nowadays. Until I hit the forums and saw this much toxic, read all the wiki and joined a faction, then I get addicted to Torn in about 2 months age.
So yeah... when do you realise that you're addicted to torn? And don't forget to spread me all the toxic. This is the Internet and I'm probably too drunk to care
My addiction started as a teenager. I remember forcing my bf at the time to let me use his computer so i could log in and train. I also refused to let him join at the time because sharing IP addresses was like the #1 reason people were fedded (this is no longer true!)
Eventually, I thought I kicked the habit. I went through detox and I was clean for years. Then one day I got a newsletter and I was like you know, one more hit won't hurt.
My main goals to play torn were to recruit players for my other game and to please my bestfriend who already played Torn before me.
A month later I announced my retirement in other game and successfully recruited a friend from there to play Torn with me. Still trying to get my other 2 friends to play Torn though.
N that's how I realized I may have Torn addiction.
Ps: Oh forgot something, I have always loved text base games for over a decade though. So I wasn't really that surprised about my addiction.
I still don't even really understand what is addictive about it and this is my third ID number having been here since almost the start.
Originally it was a social thing because a group of us friends in rl came from another couple of games. Then it was a lonely clicking thing, passing time in a bubble as my friends stopped playing. I became pregnant, moved countries, changed jobs, got married and the grey screens were a familiar if meaningless refuge.
And then it came full circle the day that Kath, Hank and Midknight all mailed me at the same time asking if I wanted to be in a proper faction. So it then became a learning experience and a social, almost family thing again.
Ched sure has his faults like we all do but he's provided a lot of us with something over many years.
This is a very sinister and psychologically additive game. I have been playing it for about 7 years and I just came to the realization that I must try to divorce myself from it. I have been trying to do so for about a week now and just cannot get it out of my mind every time that i sit down at my work station. I should not even be posting on this forum but i am compulsively doing so with the knowledge that it is harming me.
None of the senseless repetitive link clicking means anything meaningful in real life at all .. With the time that i have been vacantly staring at my monitor doing this i could have actually accomplished something that had real a benefit in my life. All this time gone, pooooof ! I know this but i am still here on this forum reading and posting.
To aid myself in quitting I have quit my faction, moved into a shack, quit my job, closed my bazaar, and hid my money. I fly back and forth from Africa, standard class, thinking that this will lessen my activity. All of this is to no avail because i keep coming back to log in one more time just to "see". I am a fool.
Other players have recommended that I can: Self fed myself, or that i change my password to something complicated that i will be unable to remember. If I self fed what happens to all the city finds and BB payouts? I do not want to lose them. If i change my PW then i will be throwing away 7 years of activity.

Here are 9 signs of actual Torn addiction that I've seen over the years:
You feel relief upon OD'ing on Xanax.
Torn is the first thing you open on your phone upon waking up. Especially if you wake up to train energy / do crimes / attack before your phone's alarm goes off.
You are either late to important meetings because of the timing of NPC loot raids or check when Loot raids are going to be prior to scheduling meetings.
You are playing Torn while driving.
You check the forums for a particular purpose, get distracted by another post, and forget what you originally went to the forums for.
You start to develop actual romantic feelings for a player and daydream about meeting that player.
You refresh your browser more than twice an hour when Torn goes down.
You take time off from school/work to watch a chain.
You can't sleep because you are anxious about what other players think about something you posted in the forums.
