You can work on a farm, sell/transport/take cannabis, have a horse head.....but this is not Farmville.
You can buy and use cannabis... about it.

there are 10 drugs that you can buy from traveling to the other destinations
you generally can buy stuff cheaper from travel, then return to Torn and sell them for higher price
gotta get to level 15 to open up travel (then get yourself the perks for adding capacity to how much items you can buy in one trip) >> see guides and stuff for info

you should just go back to playing civilization it seems more like what you're looking for

The only craftable item I have been able to find so far are viruses. Everything else works off of a spawning system with the vendors or drop tables.
Ivory walking cane used to be.
There used to be pets. You had to take care of them by feeding and walking them. There were dog fight competitions. I'd rather have that back but they won't do it.

How do you like VI? Big fan of V, myself. I got VI once it went on sale with the expansions, but still haven't really felt like playing it since the reviews say so much has been changed and not necessarily for the better.
