Ched has announced that 100,000 items in the inventory will soon be enforced as the maximum, which I find to be complete bullshit. I'm not even a big trader and this is completely ridiculous to me. Do we need millions on hand at all times, probably not, but 100k for a limit? I've had hundreds of thousands of bricks alone at one time before. I use them to give to newbies to get their dump merit, and in the past I used them to harass Josephine with so she'd continuously go over the 25k mark and get a warning on her page.

I understand why this is being done, but the extreme limitations that are being put in place because of an outdated system (should probably work on that, Ched...) being unable to handle the load, just as it was announced previously that it was only a matter of time before the game would crash because everything was outdated. The game has been a ticking time bomb for quite a while now.

I don't want to get into why this limit is not 1M or why they won't fix this for good with a new system. Staff has already explained their reasoning.

But why can't we have a couple more item sinks in the game to avoid the ever increasing number of items in a game that isn't equipped to handle it.

Dump 5k is cool, but what about donating 10k jackets to the church?

Sending Duke 15k gold watches and so on

It would pull a lot of items out of inventories

Because of f**king traders with millions items in inventory now factions suffering too.
Factions limitation should be at-least 1m considering that 100 members us it.

Lol why you complaining about this? If you wanna fix the problem, go learn coding (if you haven't already), talk to Ched, let him hire you and then fix the problem for us (and you).

I'm a vocal proponent of shitting on the staff but I cannot fault them on this. Hardware and software have its limitations. If you want a complete overhaul of the entire system to solve this dillema without implementing an item limit then it will likely cost thousands of dollars in hardware upgrades, software overhauls and would likely result in weeks of downtime on the game. Stop being such a f**king nancy and get rid of your shit.
Adrenalinas [1974447]
Hardware here is good software is f**ked it is legacy code that kinda hard replace now and it was written when Ched don`t really know what he is doing. Ched know were is problem but to solve it is kinda hard, because you need rewrite a lot of related code.

Maybe it's as easy as putting a 10K item limit on any individual trade from inventory.

Completed trade items go straight to display cabinet. Yes, I know you need points to buy a display cabinet, but if you're moving those sort of numbers that shouldn't matter.

Probably won't affect most traders, only the degenerate horders.

Big traders are going to have to adapt/list items quicker.

i mean, for real though, from developer perspective, upgrading a system that was working for so long time (~16 years in this case), would be a pain in the ass

when upgrading something like inventory system, they are not just changing the code, but possibly also the databases, from data structure, to code base design... which, will messed up pretty much on everything which are relational with inventory

keep in mind that the system is ~16 years old, if nothing big changes to the system in the past...

its not an easy work as you think, a good user experience is a pain of bunch of developer

EDITED:
also, i forget to mention, changing the limitation to 100k doesn't mean they are upgrading the system, instead, they are patching the things up.

patching =/= upgrading

If you wanna be pissy with anyone, it should be the traders who constantly ignored the warnings from staff about having too many items in their inventory. Not staffs fault for enforcing this now that they realize some of the traders had no intention of listening without there being some sort of punishment or enforcement
Adrenalinas [1974447]
First smart comment.
Still system need to be changed it kinda bad that each beer/flower or other item that stacks and has identical parameters has its own line in db.
FalconE51 [78101]
The system needs to be upgraded and Ched has known about it for YEARS. The man has admitted it. What happens when the game implodes and his money maker isn't making money anymore? Ched worked hard to build the game, and so did a lot of developers working with him, nobody can dispute it, but things need to change.

Torn/Chedburn Networks Financials <---- This is what was built on everyone playing, buying donator packs, paying for subscriber status, etc... What happens when it all comes crashing down? THIS is what he needs to be thinking about. Not only does game play get hindered, his very livelihood gets hindered too.

I'm pretty sure he has thought about that, and considering you're the only guy complaining in this entire thread, I'm also pretty sure he sleeps well at night.
