I haven’t seen this suggestion posted before and it’s something I’ve wondered about previously which I personally would be interested in.

Not everyone has the means or ability to purchase a subscription. I know there’s a lot of people out there who choose not to for whatever reason, but there are some who’d love to but can’t.

I have friends who can’t subscribe, and I think it’s a shame they have to miss out on the rewards ( books, specifically. ).

An example I have here is player X in my faction. I’m from the U.K. and X is from East Asia. He’s a student and he can’t afford to pay for the subscription, even though he is as active and loves Torn as much as I do.

I had thought about simply paying it for him, but then what options do I have?

I can’t log in to his account and set up the payment for obvious reasons, and for as much as I love the guy I most certainly am not sharing my bank details online. As far as I can tell, my best option is to set up a prepaid card and send him that - (but then I’m sure I’ve seen that it’s not possible to set up a subscription on one of these?)

So my suggestion is this;

Let us as players sponsor the subscription of other person(s) accounts, through our own account.

Torn earns more revenue (plus)
More people get to reap the benefits of subscription (plus)
It could make for some really good prizes or giveaways (plus)

Hell, it could potentially be another thing for some players to sell to others ( all the while increasing Torn’s revenue )

Please leave any thoughts, and give a like if you’d like to see something like this implemented

Edit: I see there are concerns of RMT. I personally don’t see how it differs from Donator Packs in that aspect, but I suppose it’s besides the original idea I was trying to suggest.

I simply wanted a way for those that could to help those who can’t, there doesn’t necessarily need to be a trade for it.

Edit: We managed it but yes, not without some difficulty. Definitely want this change lol.

I like the idea, in the mean time though you could send them donator packs or paypal them the money.

Kudos for the good heart on yeah mate.

The idea of subscriber is a premium you have to buy with rl money. if you make it tradable that defeats the whole point of having donator packs.

refer to dis here bogie man post

"'Subscription packs" aren't something we're keen on adding as then it largely renders the donator pack mechanic somewhat obsolete in that regard..."

EDIT: R-

EDIT 2: if you made it sellable would it be an item or a service like you DO it to someone. if its an item, your just wanting a DP buff which isn't going to happen. if you want it to be a service or like an action you do to them, then there wouldn't really be any way to anchor the price like there is with the pawn shop buying your DPs for a set price ensuring the market price cant go lower... so its not happening.

Mentions: Subscription one time payment option

The idea isn't making subscription tradable, its being able to pay for someone's subscription.

I like it, R+

P.s. pls fund me uwu

if you can pay for someones subscription, unless you are saying they are not allowed to compensate you in-game for it at all which is bullshit and borderline unenforceable, people WILL trade them my man

You have a good point, but as long as there's no money/items being sent to the gifter from the recipient, there's no problem, and the devs have spent 15+ years perfecting their money/item tracking systems.

Also, if they are caught, both accounts get fedded.

Trading won't be able to happen without getting caught.

Problem solved :)

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

As altruistic as your suggestion seems to be, this, once implemented, would facilitate a lot of transactions that is borderline RMT (or even exactly RMT per definition). I don't think Ched and bogie want to spend additional effort in tracking and drawing more lines in the sand for.

Regardless, I want others to simp for me too. R+

Real Money Gifting, not trading.

Easy to link a gifted subscription from one account to another. Torn tracks everything everyone does already.
VYNICAL [2448434]
Yes, and gifts, especially gifts that involve real money, totally does not have any implied favor to be repaid nor anyway to abuse the system. People have been able to avoid RMT and multi detection by sending payment via proxies despite Torn constantly tracking their log, introducing one more channel for possible outside transaction doesn't seem like a smart idea for the dev, regardless of whichever name you wanna call this function as. This is going to introduce a large grey zone into the RMT rule enforcement and I don't think it can be implemented anytime soon, if at all.
George_1000 [2167627]
with this system it would be items for subscriber status which is an in game thing just like trading DPs... and anyway that's exactly my point

As nice as this sounds it would just cause too much of a headache IMO. Would open up a ton of grey areas when it comes to RMT

Peace

R+ for those who dont have paypal especially the Asia

Hope they add direct carrier billing or Gpay so the majority of Asian could you know subscribe the game!

Everyone is arguing RMT. The thing with that is “you pay me real money for in game items. And that doesn’t happen here. Torn always gets the real money. So, if I give player X 50M in game and they pay Torn to give me sub. I’m not paying in game money to get real money and cutting out Torn as a company. Torn is always getting the real money. Profit is what it boils down to. I wouldn’t personally do it. But I still think it’s an idea that should be looked at
Butters [34298]
It's still RMT. Player A is still supplying a RL commodity (in the form of a paid sub requiring RL cash) in exchange for Player B giving them in-game items or cash.

Ched middle-manning this exchange doesn't lessen the RMIT aspect in any way, rather he would be facilitating the market for it. He's already skimming that fine line with DP's so he may go for this as well, although the more direct connection between the players in the transaction may give him some pause.

I'm on the fence with this - the motivation behind the idea is fine of course, but I can see this getting messy in a big hurry if there's any scamming attempts or (even in the case of a legit transaction) a falling out between the two players in question at some later point in time, perhaps resulting in chargeback attempts, etc which would be a pain to deal with given the direct link to a RL money transaction.
