Like any Torn-ite I like Honor, Points and Meits.

Back in July I had an idea for an article I wanted to submit to earn the honor "Journalist: Have an article accepted in the newspaper" and score the merit and 250 Points.

I read through the Wiki page and sent a message to sugarvalves [1963573] with my idea.

I get that it can't be too easy to get the achievement.

I know we're all busy people, and Torn isn't a priority compared to Real Life, so I waited for any sort of response.

I gave it a week, then I sent a polite chat followup.

I got busy myself for a month, and in early September I tried the 'Tell Your Story' link.

A couple of weeks ago I posted this in the "Achievement" forum (because I was querying an achievement?). and got shot down, and it was hinted this was more of a "Question" in need of an "Answer" so here I am...

Now we're into October, and I haven't received even a 'Thanks for your query; sorry we're all really busy over at Torn Times. You are 1 millionth in queue, but one day, we'll get back to you.'

It just seems a little 'unprofessional' to me that I haven't got an official "Nah, not interested" or "Sorry, not right now, try again in three months" or anything... So now, I'm turning to the forums to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to get 'The Torn Times' attention.

He hates my guts and even took the time to at least respond to me when I had an idea for the paper.

The fact that he hasn't responded at all just indicates to me that your article was likely something that isn't even worth a response. Or he thought the entire idea was a joke. So it's either something that get published all the time, or just a stupid idea that nobody would give a crap about.

Sugarvalves is very picky and choosey as to what gets published. If you do a smear article with a bunch of made up info, it's far more likely to get published than any article that includes facts. So keep that in mind.

But he almost always responds.

I'm confused... you want to write an article about your journey to becoming a journalist, but you have not actually had an article accepted before. What on earth would the content consist of? 'Make posts in the forums until hopefully your article is accepted'?

Agree you should get a basic response but I strongly suspect you would need to consider a more engaging topic idea.

@EarthFireMonkey - okay, I see some poor wording in my post.

I don’t want to write about becoming a journalist, or getting the achievement; that’s a little too meta even for me. I’ll try and update that first paragraph to make more sense.

I’m keeping the article idea “need to know” for the time being, of course I’ve told sugarvalves and the ‘submit your idea’ - but I’ll keep waiting.

No idea, got mine before their time, but have you tried writing the whole thing and sending it? Is it something people would react well to as a GD thread on the forum? If not, it may be too low quality or deemed not something interesting. It needs depth and the only reason I can think they wouldn't respond is the subject doesn't have the depth for a full article.

I'd suggest using popular forum threads as an example of what a core of an article might look like, but has to be a subject with depth where you can go deep enough to make it longer and still interesting with storytelling mixed in. So a combination of what hits on the forum and how you see formatting of past articles.

If I can dump 3 paragraph threads in GD half asleep after being awake 2 days, I'd expect SV to have some minimum standard just for a reach out. Only SV can answer though. To me, you should want to talk about it more than you want the merit if it has any chance.

You're hiding the details but one thing you may ask yourself is what's in your article idea that's not common knowledge or at the very least, who are you about to set off a round of drama with if it is?
