Is abusing negative money on hand a fair mechanic?

Did he deliberately break the rules just to get a free $3 billion? And somehow paid that $3 billion back by having someone buy mug them?

That doesn't make any sense, because he's still paying the three billion dollars, like, even if he didn't pay it at the beginning.

That would make sense if staff said he didn't do anything wrong.

Some people would say that the mugger should receive something for wasting his time and effort on a guaranteed buy mug that was stopped by the player having negative a couple billion dollars. That makes no sense. What they really should have done was just confiscate the items that were worth three billion dollars when he received them and deduct the price of the goods they took from him.

Thats all i got to say about it.

Maybe the players should have done a little research on the people He was money. Probably start doing spies before you buy three billion dollars worth of items

Except due to the fact they had a negative $3B, it means the $3B they actually got from whatever f**kery they were at is clearly somewhere else.

So yes, it is FREE buymug protection.

As soon as you take money out to buy the parachutes, the negative balance is cleared.

Does it grief buymuggers? Yes?

I'm going to assume it went more like this.

Player wins 3b from bookies, buys SEs with winnings, bookie winnings are reverted, balance goes into negative since it's no longer there.

And then they sell them for over the odds, making a buymug free profit.

If they sold the paras at a profit, wouldn’t that mean there would be money available to mug after the debt was paid? 

the money from the SEs were 200m short of making their balance positive again

If they paid off the entire debt and made a profit.  They can selectively sell them in whatever quantities to get to a tiny debt, and then pay it off.

I'll make the math easy with fictional items/prices.

Win $3B incorrectly and know it's going to be reverted.

Buy 20 items for $3B so you'll be a negative balance when Ched reverts it.

Sell 19 items for $3B (+5% markup). Mugger does the math and realizes with max merits they can make a profit and buys - except they don't because they hit this weird edge case you almost never encounter. And for folks saying do a spy, why would someone spend money on a spy to check if something is happening that isn't possible through regular normal game play (and probably have someone else beat you to the mug while you're waiting).

Congrats! You've now cleared your $3B debt with Ched, and converted that item a free item worth $150m (so pure profit) that you can now trade or sell normally without baiting.

Yeah this doesn't make any sense. It's disappointing to see the staff treating it like no big deal. Imagine if every player could just take out a negative money on hand loan to list some SE for sale and make a profit guaranteed mug free. It doesn't matter how few people this happens to, it's a broken mechanic when interacting with another very prominent mechanic in torn (mugging). I don't even like buy muggers but I feel bad for this guy, this is not a scenario that should ever be possible.

like, I know folks have pointed out that this isn't this fella's first time with a negative balance - but could it simply be that he books often and finds himself in this predicament more often than most as a result?  (spending his winnings immediately, rather than squirreling them away into a stock block or something)

When betting in things like CS + Horses where this instance occurs the most, it makes sense to adapt that mentality, as it means in cases like this, your still going to come out green.

So what's a "negative balance on hand due to gambling errors fixed by staff"?

Has the person accused been proven to have done this intentionally? Have staff made that accusation or is it just players?

Surely if staff figured it was intentional abuse they would have carried out a punishment.

Maybe next time, instead of setting a negative balance, just remove all of the items that were purchased with the funds, especially when it’s clearly big ticket items like SE’s.

No chance of “profiting.” No chance of a failed buymug. 

but this would also entail more work for the admins, unless it was somehow automated.
