The Golden AK-47 has long been one of the most prestigious and desirable weapons in Torn. Historically, it has commanded some of the highest values in the game and remains an iconic collector's item.

Since the introduction of Rank Warring weapons, many yellow-rarity weapons have seen substantial value declines. The Golden AK-47 has not been immune to this, with market values falling by approximately $10 billion from previous highs.

Despite this, it still maintains a market value of around $25 billion, making it one of the most expensive and sought-after weapons in Torn.

Unlike many other weapons, the Golden AK-47 also has an extremely limited acquisition route. New examples can only enter the game through the UAE, further reinforcing its exclusivity and scarcity.

For these reasons, I believe the Golden AK-47 would be more appropriately classified as a red-rarity weapon. This is not solely about market value, but rather a combination of factors:

  • Exceptional market value (approximately $25 billion).

  • Extremely limited supply.

  • Exclusive acquisition through the UAE.

  • Historical significance within Torn.

  • Continued status as one of the game's premier collector weapons.

Any additional perks, stat adjustments, or balancing considerations should remain entirely at the developers' discretion. The primary purpose of this suggestion is to ensure the weapon's rarity classification better reflects its true standing within the game's economy and item hierarchy.

As Torn continues to introduce new end-game weapons and rewards, maintaining a rarity system that accurately represents prestige, scarcity, and desirability becomes increasingly important. The Golden AK-47 stands out as a strong candidate for red-rarity status and deserves consideration accordingly.

I welcome feedback from collectors, traders, and long-term players on whether the Golden AK-47's rarity classification should better reflect its unique position within the game.

I think Yellow suits the AK cos of the gold plating but there are other weapons like NPC drops, dual SMGs etc that dont really fit the RW cache system. Perhaps we should have a Green quality rank for those, and put the GAK there as well. Yellow/Orange/Red only really makes sense for true cache opened RNG spawns.

I have to disagree with upgrading the rarity. The Golden AK-47 is a legacy item, and its proper place is in the display cases of the past.

Your argument relies on the idea that the weapon is scarce, but what you are actually seeing is a demand collapse. Every player over level 15 has access to the UAE, meaning the supply route is not actually restricted. The item is only "rare" because players are actively choosing not to buy an obsolete weapon at an inflated price given newer and better options for less. That is artificial scarcity, not actual rarity.

Furthermore, a healthy game economy relies on controlled power creep. The developers must continually introduce newer, better items to give active players something to strive for. Retroactively buffing the rarity and status of a legacy item does not drive engagement. It just triggers the accumulated advantage where the rich simply get richer.

Long-term players and collectors already have a massive head start with banked wealth, stocks, battle stats, etc. Upgrading the status of items they already hoard is the Torn equivalent of rent-seeking on steroids. It hands unearned bonuses to the game's billionaires without requiring them to actually play new content, invest in new systems, or adapt to the current meta. Let the old items stay old.  There are so many other areas that need help, it has been forever since we got a new crime and ranked wars are almost always termed, for example.  Helping a few legacy players who are already super rich and super strong passively get even richer just ain't on my list.

Triarius is kinda right here. They're certainly expensive and not particularly easy to come by, but... at the same time, they're not limited. There's no luck involved. Anyone over level 15 that can afford one can just fly to the UAE and buy one. If billions were dropped into people's pockets, more would be purchased, each one virtually identical to the last. With ranked war weapons, you quite literally have no idea what you're gonna get until you open the cache, and what you get is what you get.

Now. With all that being said. I do think the original bonus weapons, like the Gold AK or the Pink Mac-10 should all get their own appropriate colouration on their display. AK getting gold, Mac-10 getting pink, bread knife getting a darker, bloodier red, etc. Just because it'd be neat and a little homage to the OG bonus weapons.
