We had a faction, our leader had to go offline for a long time because of real life things, I don't want to specify it. Then this guy Ben45509681 [4080085]randomly got the leader because he was here the longest I guess and the leader was offline, then he took everyone's money, kicked everyone and blocked everyone.

Ben45509681: new ownership came in and did nothing so i just nicked all the funds

MaxHeadRoom: so you basically a faction theif?

Ben45509681: i suppose soBen45509681: made a calm 1.2 bil

Here I thought the 21b thief from the other month was too low to consider even doing but here we are with an astonishing 1.2b.

A truly outstanding move.

Ordinarily vault thieves are the result of questionable recruiting practices. In this case, I feel for you OP, and the rest of your mates that are on the receiving end of this. You have done no wrong.

I’m conflicted on this one.

You play on everyone’s goodwill, get permissions from the lead, and then betray that trust?  That’s absolutely a theft and a con.

In this case, the system awarded the faction to Ben ‘fair and square’ according to rules everyone is aware of.   Would’ve been real cool for him to give everyone their funds, and it’s pretty ‘not cool’ that he didn’t….  But it doesn’t read the exact same as a vault theft / betrayal to me.

Broxogar [2728258]

Dunno, doesn't seem very different to me.

In both cases someone had to demonstrate what they would do with someone else's money.  Whether someone put misplaced trust in them or they 'got lucky' and inherited a faction - at the end of the day they stole money which belonged to other people.

As for the faction shell / items in the armoury - well that's all his fair and square...member balances - no.

Well, at least he didn't take the helm, get everyone to deposit more, then pull the rug underneath them?

But for that little is a small return for all the bounties and enemies

And this, folks, is why you always set a trusted co-lead.

P.S. Tron city? so did he steal all the neon stuff?

I get what you're saying, but IMO members alao have a collective responsibility. Like, I would hope that if a random member in my faction ends up in the leader seat, that they would not do the theft even the thought crosses their mind. Especially the most senior members.

With a faction sale, any loyalty to the leadership resets, but the faction membership doesn't necessarily change - the faction mates, the people you're thieving from, are still the same.

It's still a huge betrayal of trust, just... not a betrayal to leadership per se.

Apolinus [3017918]

Except that the game’s position is that money in the faction vault belongs to the faction, not the members.

Again, I’m not saying what he did was cool.  But the system gives the funds to the new leader upon transfer, or the former leader upon faction destruction, precisely because the funds are the property of the faction, not the members, from a game perspective.

If we had courts in Torn I think I could defend this guy on a technicality, basically.
