FOR CUSTOMERS
| 1 | INTRODUCTION |
What this thread is for:
● Informing the Torn community on how to approach the graphics forum as a potential customer, including common do's and don'ts.
● Helping beginners understand what graphics involves so they know where to start their journey.
● Setting expectations for posting, feedback, auctions, custom requests, and commissions.
● Providing resources, guidance, and direction for improvement.
Who this helps: customers, brand new artists, returning artists, and anyone curious about Torn GFX.
This forum rewards effort, learning and growth. Skipping the basics or ignoring guidance will limit how far you progress here. As with any forum on Torn, your reputation counts.
| 2 | WHAT IS GRAPHICS? |
Graphics, or GFX for short, is a broad term that covers many creative disciplines of digital editing or graphic design here on Torn.
Most GFX artists of Torn will use digital editing tools like Adobe Photoshop, Photopea or GiMP (Image editing) or Adobe After Effects (animation) to create graphical elements for players to display on their profiles or factions.
There are many "styles/ categories" of GFX. Such as:
| Traditional Signatures / Tags Signatures, banners, profile pictures, logos and profile art.
|
||
| Animation GIFs, APNGs, animated elements, loops, and motion effects.
|
||
| Abstract Shapes, layers, blending modes, effects, and experimental layouts.
|
||
| Smudge Brushing, flow-based effects, and stylised blending around a render or focal point.
|
||
| Photo Manipulation Blending images, composites, stock work, atmosphere, and effects.
|
||
| Digital Art Digital painting, character art, scenes, custom illustration.
|
||
| Typography & Text Effects Readable, styled, purposeful text that supports the artwork.
|
Many strong pieces use a mix of composition, lighting, text, colour, and effects. Simply placing a render over a background with text is a starting point, not the finish line.
| 3 | AI-GENERATED IMAGES (use with care) |
AI-generated images are allowed, but they are not a replacement for graphics skills.
Acceptable use:
● Stock Images/ Renders
● Backgrounds or references
Expectations:
● Significant post-editing is required
● Lighting, colour, anatomy, and artifacts should be corrected
● AI usage should be disclosed when posting
Generating AI artwork is not a "get rich quick" scheme on Torn, despite what you may read on other forums. Trying to make money from the graphics forum with minimal effort and clear disregard of the artistic culture here will not make you a very popular person, nor make you money. The community is very open to teaching beginners how to make GFX - even hosting beginner friendly workshops in the GFX Lounge.
Example of Acceptable Use:

Prompting alone is not considered graphics work. If your piece relies entirely on AI output, it will not receive strong feedback or recognition in the Torn Graphics Forum.
How can I know if an image is AI generated?
Good question - there are many free AI image detection websites available through a quick google search. I personally use Hive Moderation (clicky)

| 5 | HOW TO UPLOAD PROFILE/ FORUM SIGS |
Recommended option: save your graphics to your PC/laptop or store them on an image hosting website so you do not lose the file.
1. Upload the graphic to an image hosting site such as ImgBB (clicky)
2. Find the generated embed codes and copy the HTML embed code.
3. On Torn, go to Settings > Forum Signature. Profile Signature uses the same process.
4. Click the Source Code button, paste your HTML, preview if needed, then save.
Note: make sure “Show signatures on the forums” is enabled (inside Settings > Profile Signature)
Faster option: you can copy and paste images directly into Torn, but this is not ideal long-term. External hosting is safer.
| 6 | BUYING GRAPHICS |
|
DO ● Visit auctions and bid on displayed pieces (make sure to read the rules of the auction, which is up to the discretion of the auction host)● Request customs from artists with Custom/ GFX shop threads. ● Message artists to ask if they take custom work (might be more expensive) ● Be specific about what you want - it's important to provide enough detail so the artist can align your expectation. At the same time, it is polite to give the artist a little creative freedom. ● Respect the artist's time and queue - this is only a hobby for most artists, and good quality work takes time. ● Make your budget clear ● Host Competitions! Unsure who you want to order from? Have an idea, but want to see lots of artists have a go at their version of the idea? GFX Competitions on Torn have always pulled a crowd and got lots of entries. |
|
DON'T ● Resell art you have bought - this is not allowed under any circumstance. ● Put other artist's work into AI tools - Whether it’s to enhance, restyle, extend, or generate variations, don’t upload another artist’s work into AI tools without their consent. Respect the artist, their effort, and their right to control how their work is used ● Rip - Ripping is where a piece of art is taken without permission (e.g. copy and pasting an auction piece to use on your profile, without winning the auction). This is not tolerated and will lead to negative consequences in-game. ● Ignore rules or artist usage terms. |
Buying an auction or custom piece gives you usage rights, but it does not automatically grant ownership of the PSD or permission to edit the work. Ownership and editing permissions must be given clearly by the artist.
