Every property which is a semi-detached house or better will be able to be upgraded with a garden. In these gardens you can grow flowers or grow fruit/vegetables which will take weeks or months to finish growing.
Each property will have a base amount of slots to plant in depending on the likely size for garden to be for that property. For example a penthouse might have 5 as a base number of planting slots whereas a ranch might have 15 as it's base number of slots.
Simillar to weapons stats, every property will be unique so that they can all have different values.
The things you can grow would be some of the flowers that already exist in torn, as well as new items such as beetroots or tomatoes. These will provide a small amount of energy when eaten and also improve gym gains.
Obviously plants can't just be grown out of nothing, so similar to virus coding needing blank CDs, for planting you would need seeds, but also a small amount of energy to water the plants daily.
These might not be worth growing and eating yourself since you would just be losing energy but they could be a profitable source of income, or you could just not plant things and only buy the vegetables for better gym gains.
