So I've just finished A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS last week and I've started Ocarina of Time for the 3DS in the hope of finally finishing it this time. I've have every Zelda game bar Four Swords Adventure and I've been trying to think which is my favourite in the series. After some thought I have to cite A Link To The Past, for the SNES, as my favourite. Though Links Awakening on DX came close. I like the surreal athmosphere to the game and it's incredible how much they achieved on such humble hardware. Still, nothing can compare with A Link To The Past. That game blew me away as a kid and it still holds up today. I must say I just couldn't get into Skyward Sword and I found Phantom Hourglass to be a bit of a disappointment. The sailing sections were tedious and that tower thing was irritating. I couldn't get in Adventure of Link either. So what are your favourites and what do you consider to be the weak links (no pun intended lol) in the series.
I can see the appeal of Trump to some people, much like I can see the appeal of Sanders to others. However leaving out his controversial comments on Mexicans aliens and Muslims he comes across as far too bombastic. Seriously, sometimes I think I'm watching a W.W.E. speech when I listen to him. I mean he said he will build a wall across the U.S. Mexican border--and make Mexico pay for it. That ain't gonna' happen.
Oh you assume too much my friend. As a historian objectivity is a given. Anywho, for anyone who wants to understand the salience of The Rising and the subsequent War of Independence we need to give historical context. This will be a rather long post, however it's unavoidable given the subject matter at hands. In the early 17th century wealthy Protestant Scots and English were paid by King James the first to drive out the native Catholic Gaels in what was known as the plantation of Ulster (the northern Provence of Ireland. ) This is where the modern Unionists in Northern Ireland originate from. (They're not really Irish, they're the descendants of Scottish thieves.) This cultural genocide was exacerbated during the Penal laws which began in the 1660s and ran until 1829. The effects of the Penal laws were banned Catholics from certain professions such as holding public office, owning fire arms, serving in the armed services, entering University, buying land under a lease of more than 31 years, exclusion from voting. Now, that's only a fraction of the penal laws. However Britain's worst crime against Ireland was the great famine where the population of Ireland was decimated.
From 1845-1852 Ireland suffered a great potato famine. It originated as a potato blight, which was not uncommon in Europe at the time. However only in British occupied Ireland was it allowed to evolve into a famine which reduced the population of Ireland from over 8 million to over 6 million in the space of a decade. The British authorities did little to nothing to alleviate the death and suffering of their "subjects". In fact Queen Victoria blocked an aid package from the Ottoman Sultan to aid the Irish. The whole affair comes very close to the definition of genocide.
Now as for the Rising. By the early part of the the twenthieth century Dublin had the worse slums in Europe. In recent years Ireland had been promised Home Rules by the more Liberal aspects of the British political establishment. Such efforts were constantly blocked by the Ulster Scot Unionists. Sick of false promises an Uprising was orchestrated in the Spring of 1916. A consignment of German arms were due to be imported by a Sir Roger Casement, a British philanthropist who was sympathetic to the Irish cause. Alas the arms were intercepted and Sir Roger was executed as a traitor. Without German aid the rebels had no chance of victory. Their leader, Padraig Pearse, intended it to be a blood sacrifice to encourage the next generation to rebel. After the rising the leaders were executed. The public had enough. A man named Michael Collins re-organised the I.R.A. This time they would not engage in conventional warfare, rather they would use guerrilla warfare techniques. They were massively successful. The majority of the Irish public ignored the civil service in Ireland and used I.R.B. courts- effectively making British rule impotent. The response from the British was appalling. To supplement the regular British army a make shift auxilary militia - known as the "Black and Tans" went and indiscriminate rampages. Killing innocents at football matches and burning parts of my home city in Cork. The action of the Black and Tans even appalled their own commanding officers and the British monarchy. Eventually the British realised that Collins and the I.R.A. could not be defeated and asked for a truce. The results of the treaty would lead to all of Ireland, bar the six counties of what is today Northern Ireland becoming a Free State. Collins accepted this as he knew it was a stepping stone to a full republic. He was proved right when Ireland declared itself a full republic a couple of decades later. Despite the Irish public voting for the treaty hard line republicans fought a civil war over the treaty. Although Collins' pro treaty forces won, he himself was a casualty of the war and died from an assassins bullet.
O.K. I've been glancing over this thread for awhile and I think it's time I said my piece. "God and dinosaurs" what God?Jehovah, Wotan, Thor, Zeus or Lugh? See here's the problem already. You're assuming that not only you know God exists but that you know the persona of God. I say where is your evidence? If you were born in India you would most likely worship Ganesha, if you were born 3000 years ago in Ancient Greece you would most likely worship Zeus. "God" is merely a cop out of questions we have yet to understand. But guess what? Science has a damn good record of explaining reality. We are all "tea pot atheists" at birth. It's only tribal pressure which "forces" to believe in a deity. I assume most of you believers don't believe in Zeus, Wotan or Lugh? Well some of us just go one deity further-we flush Jehovah down the toilet.
Trump implied Ted Cruz' Dad helped killed JFK. He didn't where say his source came from...the National Enquirer. Sweet Christ. I have more in common with Trump than Cruz but I lost a lot of respect for him after that.
When I clicked on this thread I expected the MBTI methodology, I'm either INTP or INFP, but this is interesting for a change. Anyway I guess I'm half way between Supportive and Cautious.
What can I say? I'm dating a bonafide genius. [] Personally, I sometimes wonder if time exists at all and perhaps we are living in a hard light hologramatic Universe.( Brain in vat etc.)
By no personal questions I meant I'm not asking for your name, nor your Mothers maiden name, or anything. I have to have to ask for your age, gender and location as I need to know that stuff for the statistics. Anyway, much appreciated for you filling in the survey. :)
Hey guys, I'd really appreciate it if you could fill out this survey and share it with your friends on FB and twitter if you have any lol. It's part of a project I have to do for college. It's only 10 questions and doesn't ask for any personal info like your name or anything. It is just basically me trying to get statistics of male versus female video game players based on age, location and types of games they prefer to play most.
If you don't play video games feel free to still fill in the survey because those statistics are important to me too.
Ip Man- Dojo decimation. It's obviously inspired from Fist of Fury but it's still a damn good fight scene. 4:50 mins in is where the real action kicks off.
Good question. I can't pick a favourite but here's a list of the guy's I enjoy listening to: Reviewtechusa, Lord Karnage, Gaijin goomba, The gaming historian, Extra credits and Game sack.
So any of you folks into trad' martial arts? I used to be an assistant instructor in Shotokan Karate. I'd love to get back into it again. Seriously thinking of getting back in training this Spring. Is there anyone else on Torn who shares the passion of traditional Asian martial arts?
Japan. I could go there on a JET course (assistant English language instructor) but I have other more important stuff going on. Still, my best friend is on the JET course. She came back to Ireland for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. Even the teachers in the school are anime fans. lol
Apart from Japan I would have to say Italy. Particularly Rome and Florence. Also New York at Christmas. It's a bit of a cliche from movies but it's something I have to experience.
