Hi! It could be nice to be able to fetch the different permissions that members of a faction have inside a faction. This could allow scripts to fetch the status of specific people in the faction and do crazy things with the info. e.g. I want to be able to show the status of my OC managers to know when they are online.
Hi! Faction positions are finally out! So this is just a friendly reminder according to the message above :) Would be cool to be able to get the position name since this is public information... Would be even better if there was another selection for actual permissions that was only available for those with API access!
Hi! I am posting this here after a suggestion from someone else.
There doesn't seem to be a mechanism to get the permissions of members in a faction, even though this is public (and useful) information.
Having this would allow third party devs to be more creative as people have expressed on the original thread here: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=63&t=16146271&b=0&a=0
Sorry if this does not belong at all on this forum.
Hi! It would be awesome to be able to know exactly how many more API calls are left in a minute for a specific caller key. Reasoning behind this is that nowadays there's a multitude of scripts and extensions making API calls, which might easily cause the rate limit to be hit.
Having this information as a field of every API result could help scripts to limit themselves (or warn the user about their API usage) and not "break silently" because the API is responding with an error instead.
I just wanted to share a little extension I created that, to be honest, I mostly created to learn how to do extensions.
It is a simple extension that attaches itself to the high-low casino game, and adds some HTML in there that tells you what are the odds of getting a higher, lower or the same card as the dealer.
The calculations are based on a 52 card deck and assumes that the cards are discarded until a shuffle happens...
If you'd like to give it a try, it's currenty in the chrome web store, or the following link:
After a long hiatus i decided to check torn again and realized that the old script I made to highlight things in the city didn't work anymore. So I just threw in a little update that i wanted to share because... why not :)
Pretty sure there might be some other tools out there already that handle it, but it gave me something to focus on for a little bit as i rediscovered torn after years out.
even when I am not even involved in the fight? I can literally sit in a player's attacking page and see who is attacking them and who they attack, without using any energy at all and without them knowing i am seeing that.
Sorry if this is a duplicate... couldn't find anything on the forums but i might not have looked properly :(
When looking at the Attacking page for a player, attack information about the target is displayed on the frame
As an example of this, the following 2 screenshots display who knocked a player even though they performed a sneak attack on them: Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2 On one other occasion, the action window showed an attack the watched player was initiating against someone else (i did not grab a screenshot of this one)
To reproduce this simply: 1) Go to a player profile 2) Click the Attack button to go to his "Attacking Page" 3) Watch the page
I was using Firefox on PC, did not test with others

Not quite... bookmark navigation could be one use, but there are more complex usages that does not involve opening a URL directly since it just doesn't work that way
A couple of usages that comes to mind. On the press of a button:
Click on yes links when purchasing items or reviving(giving an alternative to the previous auto-click-on-yes functionality that was removed from some scripts)
Open a mini profile (simulate a mouse down, this is really bothering me when trying to use mini profiles in firefox mobile since there's a small time frame between opening mini profile and showing context menu to copy the link that i usually miss)
Faster actions: e.g. C for opening crimes, A for clicking on Arson, W for clicking on warehouse, E for execute (yes, there are other extensions doing this way easier, it is just an example)
Attacking shortcuts: 1 for main, 2 for secondary, 3 for melee, 4 for kick/punch, 5 flee
The idea is just to replace clicking by pressing buttons (one press = one click, no automation of subsequent clicks).
But if that clicks was initiated by a manual action of the user? That's the whole point, I would just be replacing the mouse action but the action would still need to happen, and it would be a click on a single elements with no further automation.
For the scripting, I can do the scripting myself... It is more about the implications of such method. And this would be more for actions for which direct links are not available (e.g. pressing Y instead of clicking on yes for purchasing from a bazaar)
In terms of filtering, it comes down to only acting on the right circumstances.
So, I was wondering this and i couldn't find anything about it. I know that making any kind of automated non-api server request to torn is a no-go... But what about scripts that enable clicking on a link through a key on the keyboard?
technically, it is a manual action by the user (e.g. press I for Items), but since it is the script making the click I just wonder how borderline illegal that might turn out to be...
I agree with Platinum and DeKleine... there's no gray zone here, and I also don't think its valid to try to bring laws into a game rule... Also, you would be breaking two rules by doing this, since user scripts cannot make non-API requests to Torn neither
They cannot make additional non-API requests to Torn
I checked again, and i manage to reproduce it on my browser (tampermonkey disabled), but not on an incognito window (tampermonkey also disabled)... So, that being said... if its not an issue from torn, i guess there's nothing to do here.
To still answer your question, this is the script I was using when i noticed this: https://github.com/Goltred/tornscripts/blob/master/TradeTracker/trade-track.user.js
The way i am interpreting that rule is: Anything non-manually-triggered that causes an HTTP request to be launched (clicking on a button, anything that would trigger an ajax call, etc.) is forbidden. That is how auto-clicking on a yes confirmation link, on an egg, etc. actually breaks that rule.
Inputting a value in a field shouldn't be breaking that, as long as NO HTTP request to Torn is triggered as a result of that action.
Kind of reinforcing what cryosis7 said above, if you are adding your own buttons and stuff, and then clicking them (manually or automatically), as long as an that does not trigger an HTTP request to torn then it should be fine IMO (my own interpretation of the rule).
Jamop, maybe things are not working for you because of some validation on that field? It happened to me on the company inventory refill input fields, i had to enter a value and then call blur on the input field for it to be "validated" by the form on that page and being able to use things properly.
what do you need help with... API usage or actual programming tutorials? the API is used by simple HTTP requests, which is why I assume you are better of looking for tutorials on javascript and jQuery (not necessary but perhaps recommended). As for google sheets integration, this might probably be a good starting point to gain some knowledge: https://developers.google.com/apps-script/overview (easiest method I know of is creating a sheet with code published as a webapp).
The API website contains all you need regarding the API usage, it gives you the URL you need to query for the different endpoints with the selections you want right there so that you can copy paste them in your HTTP requests
I am seeing an "Error: Permission denied to access property "apply"" when loading different trades in https://torn.com/trade.php. This is not causing any issues per-se on the functionality of the website, but it is causing userscripts to not be able to rely on $(document).ajaxComplete (since the exception seems to be thrown before).
I can reproduce this 100% of the time in Firefox (i don't have other browsers for now), just by going to that website and trying to display the different trades available to me. Once it happened that it did NOT throw that error for a few clicks, but eventually it started appearing again. Reloading the website while in a trade already does not cause the error, it only happens when a request is triggered by clicking the view buttons
Using $(document).ajaxComplete has been invaluable in different userscripts and it is a bummer to not be able to use it here consistently.

AFAIK, storing the key is not breaking any rules... security-wise you need to know what is being done with your API key, so i wouldn't do it for scripts/extensions that I fear might be sending that key somewhere else to do stuff outside of my machine. I do a similar thing for one of my user scripts, where i need the user's api key for part of the functionality, so i ask for it in a text box and store locally for later use so that i don't have to ask it over and over.
I couldn't find anything regarding this so i will post it just in case... it could be cool to have some general filtering for the different user lists around the game. There's quite a couple of scripts that add filtering to the faction members list for example, but having some torn-provided filtering capabilities could be really useful and avoid having us creating a bunch of scripts for it, while also making it faster (the game contains all the required information already...) and consistent for everyone.
The idea would be to have filtering controls on the different fields present on the list, since the same-ish table is used in Jail, Hospital and Faction member list (some competitions too), then the same controls could work on all of those pages, allowing to filter on faction, status (online, offline, idle), level ranges and player condition (okay, traveling, in hospital, etc.).
On the same note, having the means to only refresh the member list without having to reload the whole page would make pages a bit faster since those attacking or reviving a faction could just click the refresh on the table instead of having to reload the whole page again.
