Telomeres are one of the major factors, but another big contributor is the accumulation of changes in the DNA due to damage (eg oxidation and ionisation from radiation) and imperfections in the process of cell division.
If you think about the DNA being a cookbook ie a set of instructions to make a whole list of different foods (chemical).
If you asked someone to copy it all out by hand with no spell checker there might be one or two mistakes which in itself wouldn't be too much of an issue, but if this process is repeated hundreds of thousands of times with mistakes creeping in each time then after a while the recipes are just useless (the processes and functions of the cell cease to be useful)
Fun fact: There is evidence to suggest that lobsters are immortal. They simply get older and bigger until they get so big something just eats them, but there's never been a lobster recorded dying of old age.
