Asking for a friend: could we get the total number of crimes in the class added to the result message?
This way we see right on the page whether we should click on "Try Again" or not. For all of us with OCD, it would allow us not to overshoot our next target, and end up with things like 5001 Illegal products crime.
So I (finally!) got into the busting top 20. At the ripe age of 3999 days. Actually a couple of hours before I turned 4000, so blink and you've missed it!
The next youngest in the top 20 is 5200 days old, and the only youngest in the top 20 is CerealKillaKyle, #38 at 3959 days.
Obviously it's not the first time someone under 4K days old or less enters the top 20: that was the case for at least the first 4K days of Torn, more than half of its total life. But since busting is severely time gated, I believe this will the last time this ever happens. Yay!
Although...

So first, I think we can all appreciate how insane David and Boxcar182 numbers are. Over 10 busts a day for over 20 years. INSANE! (I-Am-biker-babe is not bad either, lol).
But also, I will have to keep an eye on the aptly named BreakingChad for the next 8 years or so. At this rate he has a fair shot at getting into the top 20 "early", depending on him keeping his rate at this level (it looks like he's started slowing down a bit recently) and what people ahead of him do. Don't forget that the goal posts are moving, so it will be harder for him than it was for me, as the number of busts required to get into the top 20 keeps going up. In any case his rate is super impressive, considering you can't start busting right away (and yes, it looks like he has already used the busting book).
BTW, the only category that's even more time gated seems to be Awards: youngest in top 20 is anghel at 4690 days, you probably need all 10 yearly merits to get there. All other HoF categories have quasi-noobs in the top 20.
A couple of final notes: in order to get to the top 20 at the 4000 day mark, I needed to keep an average of 12 busts a day for the last month or so and 13 for the last week. This involved so many reloading of the jail page that I triggered the bot hunter. I also have to thank the meta-busters, people who busted me out of jail repeatedly, starting with Adobi, who did it 46 times and Scary, 17 times.
TL;DR: I wasn't the first one under 4K days in the top 20 in busting, but I will likely be the last one. Something to be mildly proud of!
edit: fixed the last column of both tables to actually show the number of busts. Also, as mentioned in the comments, undo also has a chance to get to the top 20 before turning 4K.
In the API data for factions, in the attacks field, would it be possible to have the war ID or wall ID?
Without this, it is impossible to assign an attack to a war/wall if: - there is more than 1 wall up - the faction member was attacked - the attacker was stealthed
The API lets me know that it was a wall hit (modifiers.war is 2), but not from which wall.
I would assume that both the wall and the war IDs are available to the system, so any one of them would be enough to properly assign the attack to a war/faction.
The information is already available: "live" I can see that the player was knocked off the wall, and it's a war hit. Since I can see which wall (that's the information that the API does not give me) I know from which faction the hit came, even if I don't know the attacker id. So adding it to the API would not reveal anything new.
Could we get a little target for hits that were done to collect bounties on faction members? That would help figure out quickly that a hit was not "malicious": our allies should usually not hit us, but they are allowed to collect bounties on us.
Something like this: the little target on the 4th line marks a hit that was an hospitalization for a bounty. I think there is enough space in the box to add it.
Could the bottom of the Mr/Ms Torn ranking be randomized?
Like everybody in the last 30%, or even 50%, gets displayed in random order, without showing the votes, so we avoid having a last place contestant?
People follow the top of the rankings, but really, who cares about the masses (of which I am, every single time!) except the contestants themselves. Knowing that "you didn't do so well mate!" is enough, no need to put an exact score on that (tokens can still be allocated according to the real ranking). I am sure some don't care, but I am also pretty sure that some may feel quite hurt: they entered to get the free merit, and they end up in the last couple of pages of the list. Do we really need this?
It would be interesting to get numbers by year, but that's not available through the API.
I could easily get is the last action for inactives, but that would not tell the whole story. For more detailed data, you would need to go through each profile, select the graph for busting, and get the data. It's in the page, you have to look for a div with aria-labell="A tabular representation of the data in the chart.". You could write a script to extract it. It would be a bit time consuming though!
It seems to me that the common pattern is that at some point people decide to start busting, and they bust a lot for a few (or a lot of) years, then often they slow down.
BTW, I still remember seeing you whizz past me in the HoF, so clearly you've been busting a lot in the past few years. lawyers!
Indeed that's a lot of clicks to reload the jail page! I wonder if the devs could pull out that type of stats, "number of hits to the jail page: 443,678" that would be cool.
I also wonder if the jail page is the most accessed page in all of Torn.

Well do to you... and probably a hundred others right? I also got 100 skills everywhere and I haven't particularly focused on crime, just did most of them up to 100 and then switched to the next one.
I would assume anyone working in a bar has had it for a while now.
Although of course the stats are only available as of today, so we can't know for sure, and we can all brag about it. So well done!
Sorry, I was using minimal in the colloquial sense, not as the API level.
What I mean is that for tools that are used within the browser, then the API levels make sense. For tools used outside the browser, if you make sharing the key dangerous enough, then hopefully people won't do it. of course "making it dangerous enough" means that if people still do it, then there's the potential for scamming. But ideally, I would like a situation where even big factions can't do it. This might not be realistic, I agree.
If each bot can only track 100 or less bazaars per minute, then you can't really share the output, and you have to be creative about _which_ bazaars to track. For me that's a better game environment than the current one. Of course that plays to my strength/interests.
With regard to mug bots, I am wondering if the creation of several levels of API key may have been a mistake.
I would really like sharing keys to be severely limited.
I have a home-made bot that uses only my API key, and it's a real challenge to do something useful with just 60 calls/mn (since I leave 40 calls for TornTools and other non-mugging tools). It's also fun (OK, maybe not everybody would find this fun!). To me it enhances the game, even though sadly, it does not make me uber-rich.
But in the current system, being able to create a minimal level API key, means you can relatively safely share it. This allows for pooling keys, and tracking more bazaarss, more often. You can brute force stalking, instead of having to use finesse, and finding a niche subset of the bazaars to track.
In the old system, the API key gave access to _all_ of the info for a player. Hence people tended not to share it. With the option to create a key that does not give access to the player's info, people share it more easily. Which allows faction bots to get around the 100 calls a minute, and allows for very powerful bots that track repeatedly thousands of bazaars.
I understand that for interactive tools (a la TornTools), having different levels of API permissions is a good thing, to avoid a malicious tool sending information to the wrong place. But for batch tools, I think it would be better to try to discourage sharing key, by making it more risky than it is now.
Basically making the system less safe would, I hope, lead to dozens or hundreds of small, clever bots, instead of a few big and stupid ones.
You never "put them on", It never appears in your item list.
It's just something virtual, assigned to you, and then stolen, for the duration of the event. At the end of it, they all go poof
OTOH gold, silver, bronze and metal dog tags are real items, collectibles, that are awarded to 1rst, 2cd, 3rd and top 10 ranked players in the dog tag event.
