Hey all, thought i'd get some opinions on some RPG's people have played and try and cobble together a list of some of the best from everyone's input, hopefully a few people will learn about some titles they were unaware of and manage to snag a copy off GOG or steam or something and get to enjoy them. I'll start off with a couple of my personal favourites:

Deus Ex: Holy f**k if this isn't one of the most well crafted examples of gameplay i've ever seen. Over a decade later and i'm still playing through it having a ball and enjoying the voice acting that was performed by a particularly sociopathic copy of microsoft sam. If you like stealth games, action games, RPGs, story games, games where your decisions have impact, games with replayability, this is for you. Graphics have aged terribly but honestly it doesn't detract in the slightest, pick it up for dirt cheap.

Mass Effect 1: The beginning of an epic saga, and in my humble opinion the best of the 3. The combat is a bit naff, the Mako segments leave something to be desired and the side missions, well, let's be honest, they blow like a hooker in a room full of old dudes. But the great story, fantastic characters, and excellent sense of adventure and scale make it a really special little gem you'll get hours of fun out of, pick it up if you were late to the party.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines: What can i say, besides that i've been gaming for over 15 years and this humble little bundle of love is my 2nd favourite game of all time. Excellent story, excellent characters, fun gameplay (besides the sewer cough cough), a brilliant fanbase who are patching and modding their little socks off to this day (get the unofficial patch ASAP upon purchase, this is a source engine game), and a really unique gameplay experience mixed with clever writing and genuine humour make this unforgettable, with heaps of replay value and a teeny tiny price tag. Seriously, go buy this. Don't be that guy. Nobody likes that guy. He has a gimpy walk and he smells odd.

Dark Souls: And here's my no. 1 game of all time. When you play a Souls game, you are playing something you have never experienced before. A level of richness, subtle storytelling, wonderfully crafted worlds and a challenge that'll have you screaming so loudly your mother will hear you before she gives birth to you, if you consider yourself a fan of RPGs you *NEED* this in your library.

Jade Empire: Another Bioware gem, based on ancient mythological Japan, this is a really unique game with a rich setting and great gameplay. The story is great, the atmosphere and music is great, quests are fun, characters are pretty decent, give it a whirl, you can snap it up cheap these days and it still looks pretty decent graphically.

So, guys n gals, what are your favourite role playing games? Leave a list, make a huge gushy fanboy/girl blurb about a single game you think is the absolute bees knees, whatever you like, just feel free to chime in!

zombies are coming... ·

Cast Armageddon spell from Ultima, sit back and laugh maniacally, then realise how lonely and crap things will be now that everything in the world is dead.

As an ACTUAL answer though, (do note I already live in the middle of nowhere so this is based on a rural area) just straight up sit it out for the first couple weeks to avoid mass hysteria, if it's not sorted by then then gather up 2 melee weapons (utility and straight up combat), 2 guns (primary and side-arm), weapon cleaning kit, plenty of tools and components, building materials, steal some cattle/poultry/general livestock from nearby farms (who'll miss em when everyone's dead), plenty of non-perishable foods, vitamins and minerals, antibiotics, water, books and other assorted entertainment, sort out a way to prepare and preserve food without the use of electricity. Travel around noon for the best visibility (zombies never really appreciate a nice sunny day anyways) using a bicycle or just walk (no noise and glutes of steel), if you need to travel with bulk stuff use a trolley from your local Walmart or whatever, and if at all possible by that point try and find a generator, solar panels, whatever can generate some extra power for when the local plants/dams go unmanned and eventually fail, and stockpile for when the water filtration system breaks down too. Plenty more to say buuuuuuut just go read the Zombie Survival Guide or something, s'great, 10/10

Wait, that is not what I wanted to see. ·

Kinda happened to me, but instead of a bad thing it was a good thing. Saw Drive advertised and like a bunch of other people thought it was another action flick, so i kinda expected them to be pulling a Tom Cruise kinda venture to boost Ryan Gosling's popularity a bit with generic actioney schlock, but it turned out to be a great slow-burn thriller with an awesome soundtrack
