Misconceptions about Islam · · 12 likes

One main misconception is that Islam oppresses women. While I do agree that women are oppressed in the Middle East, it is not due to Islam. As proof consider this, at the time Islam was beginning to form, it wasn't to out of place for a family to kill a girl when she was born as having boys were much more wanted as boys were more equipped to work. So when Islam came about it did dim the oppression, as now the oppression is a lot less brutal.

Another misconception I found is that people will isolate phrases to make it seem like the Quran supports violence. A recent example I found was when someone pulled the phrase "Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled." from tawbah 9:29, but what you would have realized from looking at it through context is that this surah was supposedly revealed right before one of the major battles to keep Islam from being destroyed. Making basically one part of a large pep talk.

Those are a few of misconceptions I've noticed recently, if anyone has any questions, please tell me them.

Job application market · · 2 likes

What you could add that would be cool is a job market where company directors can more easily find people that they want to hire. There would be a new section in let's say the newspaper or something, in which a player would post their stats and how much they're willing to work for maybe a small fee relative to how much they want to be payed ( like maybe 7% of how much they want to be payed). And then directers who need new employees can search the market for people who have stats and a prices at they are willing to hire. Then they message that player and the player accepts or refuses the offer.

1. I hoped to attempt to solve any confusion around and concepts that people may have about Islam

2. I'd have to say no, but I'll crack it open and read some from time to time.

3. I'd have to one main one would be what it says about women's rights, or what it says about punishments, This doesn't directly link to the Quran would be, Shariah law, it, for the most part, is very stupid to me, and I don't believe that religion should mixed with law and politics.

4. Yes I do believe so as from what I believe that the main reason they act the way they do as a false feeling of oppression combined with the recent conflicts in the middle east have riled a lot of people up into this fear. I believe that it would get them to realize the sins of their ways via the way it tells not to kill the innocent, and with verses detailing the crimes they are committing spiritually and physically.

1. Here's what I'd guess, they think they are being valiant and defending their religion, they believe that they are fighting against these evil countries. But Christians on the other hand, have already been through this phase in which they feel oppressed and try to solve it the wrong way in different parts of the world. But with the more recent circumstances terrorist groups have formed trying to create a false state due to things that have recently occurred in the middle east giving them land, but as the gain more land, more countries notice them, making it harder to get land, so they try to use stupid people to create a reputation of brutality to try to scare leaders into giving them land easier. In short what i'm trying to say is that the Christians know it would do nothing major, but the people suicide bombing are mainly just mentally ill retards who think they're doing something honorable.

2. In ISIS and other terrorist groups it would probably be being known as martyr, meanwhile anywhere else, you'd be known as a psychopathic piece of scum that no one would miss.

3. It depends where you're living at, but if you live in: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, it's punishable by death, anywhere else nothing will really happen.

4. From what i found online, no one really knows as that's a very specific question but the best answer I can give is that he married her at about 53

5.I mean the only estimate i could find for direct killing would be one, but ive managed to find a list of killings that Muhammad allegedly supported or ordered ( See 2nd link) which totaled to 43

links: https://www.quora.com/How-many-people-did-prophet-Muhammad-kill, https://wikiislam.net/wiki/List_of_Killings_Ordered_or_Supported_by_Muhammad

6. Yes but there are a lot of things left out to make him seem like so. Such as, when I was a kid I had never been taught about Aisha, some of the worst hadith, or how stupid sharia law could be. I was taught that he was a wise, kind, and merciful man, basically all the standard things you're parents would want you to be like.

(Side note, sorry it took me so long to get to this one, you had a lot more questions than most people and im in the middle of a trip to see family)

Well, history would beg to differ, here are a few web links detailing some of the accomplishments of the Islamic Empire:

https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/world-history/medieval-times/cross-cultural-diffusion-of-knowledge/a/the-golden-age-of-islam

http://www.fasebj.org/content/20/10/1581.full

https://www.saylor.org/site/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/HIST101-9.3.1-AbbasidDynasty-FINAL.pdf

Nowadays Islam is similar to the Catholic Church before the reformation occurred. While i do believe that modern day Islam has strayed from its original light, it would be purely and factually incorrect to say Islam has brought nothing to the table.

while i do understand that this study is about Latvia, you do have to understand, the situation would have pretty similar if not worse in the middle east, as disease would have probably been worse as since water was so scarce, and crowded cities tend to form around those wells id assume that disease would ruin things. I Also believe things like tribal disputes might also lower the life expectancy in the middle east, as in before the formation of islam there had been many tribes that have each been warring with eachother for decades, each on an eye for and eye basis, if not worse.

For the arranged marriage, i do wholeheartedly condemn it as it is forced, and it typically leads to bad relationships, which may be abusive, or lead to other horrible things. But for circumcision, id have to say i think it's fine. I say this due to some of the huge benefits it grants. It reduces the risk of: urinary tract infections, penile cancer, and STDs. For me, the benefits outweigh the cons, but I understand why many people might consider it cruel and wrong,

Misconceptions about Islam ·

In that case, for the curcumcision, I'd just assume that the parents are very religious and for the arranged marriage that reason would differ from family to family, but I'd assume it would be done for things such as money, class, or that the other family might also be very religious and that both families want their child to remain religious, or any other benefits that either family might receive.

1, please feel free to show where you got the sex slave, kidnapper, and murderer story. 2, before you go ranting about how Mohamad married a 9 year old you have to remember a few things. When he married Aisha it was in the 7th century, a time in which the life expectancy for the average person was 20 years old. When you think about that, she would have been in her midlife, a time typically considered the best time to have children, which meant for her time period, she was probably at the right age to marry, or maybe a few years older. And plus when you take stories of the prophet into consideration, it was stated that she was a child prodigy, which makes me think she would have hit puberty early. While this stuff would considered pedophilic and wrong nowadays, back the it probably was the norm. So next time you try to bring up an argument like, you have to check the more background facts to make sure that they support your point.

Think about this, the leader of these countries, usually kings, are taught to be extremely strict and with their culture, and when that culture tells them "**** women" what do you expect. And for the child marriage, that is arranged marriage, which dates back to the ancient Egyptians, long before Islam, and still takes place in different places in the world, not just he Middle East. And with the circumciusions it's not just women who have to go through it, so do men. And while I do admit that in certain countries, Islam has been corrupted and that a reformation must happen soon in order to changs what is occurring in the name of Islam. What I meant was that at heart, the Quran does not intend for the oppression of people, but it has been an excuse used for it.

Yep, as the atrocity of the treatment of girls due to what they could do in society. Think of it like this, back then in the Middle East, most people were laborers, meaning boys would have been much more helpful, this would have led to a stigma for having girls as since women didn't really work out of the house back then they would have been just an extra mouth to feed. Which is the main reason girls were treated so badly, because they were virtually useless to the working class. This is what most likely led to the horrible treatment of women.

For your first question, i do believe that you could live in modern society but it would be very challenging. When you think about it there are always ways to do what the Quran says while still being allowed small breaks here and there due to the fact that some things are optional and others will kind of be lenient to your situation, such as in the month of Ramadan, you are allowed to skip fasting for how much time you need if you are young, elderly, injured, traveling, or sick. But overall while I do believe that you could do the exact things that the Quran says word by word, I think it would be very challenging and impractical.

For your second question, I'd believe that the modern interpretations may be diluted a little bit. I think this as certain verses are left relatively open ended as to allow the person reading it to understand the main point while allowing a slightly more self taught approach to help you understand it more. Having this approach makes it so that the reader gets a more meaningful understanding, but in turn, it would dilute the meaning as people would put their own spin on it making it fit what they feel it acceptable.

i hope my answers have solved your questions and feel free to post anymore questions you've got. :)
