This is a game I've always enjoyed from other forums I use to frequent. And since signing up here at Torn I've found myself frequenting the Fun and Games section quite a bit. So I figured it's time to get this game going and hopefully enough people will find it worthwhile to keep it active.
The way it's played is pretty simple. I'm going to post the title of a song (followed by the artist it is performed by) and then the following poster will do the same. The only catch is the song title you use must contain one of the words listed in the previous song title by the poster above you. So, for example:
Post number one could be: Piano Man - Billy Joel
Then post number two could be: Man In the Box - Alice in Chains
Post number three could then be: Heart-Shaped Box - Nirvana
And so on and so on...
Variations of words can be used. For example, if a title had the word "Run" in it the following poster could use a song that has the word "Running" in its title as opposed to strictly using "Run."
Feel welcomed to embed the YouTube video of the song if you like. You just may introduce someone to a new tune they happen to enjoy. And since give aways are always fun maybe we could send a gift someone's way when they happen to post a favorite song of ours or post one you never heard before but gave a listen to and now think it's great. This is far from a requirement though as I know many of us may not even be positioned within the game well enough yet to send out items to others. But then again, even that box of chocolates you stole from the candy shop might make someone else's day. Sometimes it's just the thought that counts around here :)
So, with all that stated, I will now kick things off...
I'm going to list a song title (and the performer) to get things started. Then the next poster is required to name another song that shares at least one word from the title I had listed. I'll give an example below.
If the first post were:
Walk This Way [Aerosmith]
Then the next post could be the following examples:
Walk On [Neil Young] or Something In the Way [Nirvana]
You can also use different variations of a word. So other examples that would be acceptable are:
Walking On Broken Glass [Annie Lennox] or Carry On Wayward Sun [Kansas]
You cannot use a word that simply contains a portion of a word from the previous title. For examplethe following would not be acceptable:
You Were Always On My Mind [Willie Nelson]
(The word "always" doesn't qualify as carrying the word "way" into the next title. I assume that is obvious to most, but people have tried it in the past).
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU USE A WORD FROM THE SONG TITLE ONLY. Using a word that may be part of the name of the performing artist defeats the purpose of the game. Please don't do this. I would also suggest trying to avoid using words like "The" as the carry over word when possible. But if that is all that comes to mind you are welcome to do so.
How To Embed a YouTube Video
You aren't required to, but if you'd like you can embed a video of the song you're posting. Torn member "IceBlueFire" has a great thread explaining how this can be done. You can find it here: How to Add Videos to Your Profile
I suggest reading his thread, but I will post the code you want to use below for how to embed the video. Basically, copy and paste the following into your post:
For the video to embed you will need to delete the "*" symbol from the code above written at the start following the "KEYHERE." The YouTube video key is the code that is written at the end of the YouTube page's url address. It will be what appears after you see "watch?v=" written.
You can also find this code written after where it says "https://youtu.be/" if you click on where it says "Share" on the YouTube page. But again, I recommend reading IceBlueFire's thread as he does a better job going step by step on how to do this if you don't follow along with what I wrote above.
I hadn't heard he passed away until just now (it was reported earlier in the day). It took me by surprise to suddenly hear it briefly mentioned on the news. Apparently he has battled cancer for the better part of the last ten years.
He was part of some great casts from the 90s with Chris Farley and Adam Sandler (among many other standouts). And when SNL decided to move on from that group MacDonald hung around for a few years as part of the casts with Will Ferrell and others.
That whole group with Farley, Sandler, Spade, Chris Rock, Tim Meadows and others will always stand out and stick with me. Norm Macdonald was definitely among those members that made me laugh an awful lot as a kid (and as an adult). Even back in the 90s his jokes and the manner in which he delivered them felt like it challenged the whole "political correctness" trend. I thought it was great. I appreciated back then and still do now.
For anyone that watched SNL at that time and liked that cast of characters, I've come to learn if you hear any of them being interviewed it's usually worth a listen. It seems most of them have a story to tell about Farley that will crack you up, as well as just making me laugh at something they'll say in general related to how they all interacted together.
I was away from the game for a bit and returned recently. But I’m fairly certain I recall a statement made by a staff member that snow globe maps have a higher built-in spawn rate than non-snow globe maps.
Hopefully someone else can confirm for certain.
But I can say for certain that since I remembered this, and have begun searching in snow globe maps this year (as opposed to just circling a “loot” map), I am finding more items.
Can Christmas Town seem dull at times? Sure. I suppose it can. But I know I’d miss it a lot if it was gone.
And the other thing is, even when it feels dull it tends to mean one of a few things:
You’ve searched the map enough already and need to leave it alone for a few hours before searching again.
You’re searching too often.
You’re searching the “wrong” maps (I believe Snow Globe maps have a higher spawn rate).
You haven’t bothered obtaining many, if any, snow globes (and therefore have a low spawn rate boost).
You don’t roam around and explore maps enough in order to find loot (and maybe even learn where certain maps “hot spots” are).
I’m sure there may be a few other reasons people can come up with.
In addition to that, even if all you did was get your 5 coupons every day and exchange them at the end of the event — that alone is fun and worthwhile enough to do. And it wouldn’t take all that much of your time. Getting your daily gift from Santa is also quick and easy.
Torn is a long term game. And from that standpoint Christmas Town is a great way for new and younger players to build net worth year after year. Plenty of veteran players find it worthwhile for that reason as well.
It’s a laid back event where you get what you put into it. Plan wisely and Christmas Town will help you out a lot with building your net worth.
They don’t seem to realize or admit it. But conflict of interest is definitely present within the staff for various reasons — one example is what you state above.
Off of that list, there’s so many I like that it would simply depend on my mood at the time. If I had to choose just one though I’d likely say Led Zeppelin. The older I’ve got the more and more I’ve come to like them (didn’t listen to them much when younger).
My reason for going with them is because they probably have the largest library of songs I could enjoy based on any number of moods I may happen to be in.
It’s a reflection of who really comes off like the bigot and the person holding a 5-year-olds mentality. You would be the first to bitch and moan if anyone here began calling you names. You’d be the first to hit that report button over it and get the mods involved. Yet here you are tossing insults at people left and right and nothing comes of it.
You are clearly a mixed up individual. I hope some day you get some help for all the hatred you carry about in your heart.
This is why I stated what I had in my reply. I would want to know what the reasoning for the surgery would be. Are there health implications involved or is it purely to make the child appear more male or female.
I’d also be curious as to whether or not the intersexual organs were all functional. Or are some there that would serve no purpose other than simply getting in the way. If the latter is the case it would be more akin to having an extra limb removed or maybe perhaps having something like oral surgery done on a child suffering from a cleft lip / palate.
It’s not a comparable situation. Nor is it a common situation that occurs. But to answer your question I would want to educate myself on what drawbacks there could be if no surgery was done. And I’d want to know what the surgery involves. And then I would make a decision based on what I learned and what the doctors say.
I would also want to know if there was any harm in waiting until the child is older before deciding on whether any surgery was needed.
But again, it isn’t comparable. We aren’t talking about people born with intersexual properties. That’s more along the lines of asking if I felt Siamese twins should be separated at birth or having surgery performed on a child born with some other physical birth defect.
