Should Torn players be able to toggle in-game censorship? On the forums, I recently posted a Denis Diderot quote on a Politics thread, an unpopular but true statement, and staff edited it out with the phrase "Obscene Content". This shrewd wording in the censorship process makes it seem like I had posted a meme or an NSFW image there, when it was really just a quote which the staff member probably disagreed with. If players had the ability to view the flagged content, they would be able to clearly tell that this is not the case. The fact that moderation is done by humans, that automated moderation is designed by humans, and that all humans make errors, means that it is unwise to give staff the authority to censor content with whatever they please. If they only write something like "Content Edited", without writing additional comments of their own, it would be fairer. However, in this example, it clearly was not.
Torn is a crime game clearly made for adults, and it is not for children. Censorship is necessary, because it is a large online community, however, I believe that it should be something that can be toggled by the player. As evident by the announcements forum, I have noticed that Torn loves to imitate other games, and many other MMORPGs today give players the ability to toggle censorship, or view the content that has been flagged as spam. This is only to eliminate staff bias and promote a fairer game experience for all.
Derailing people's threads without a proper argument, and with nothing to say except "You are an eighteen day old account with 8 logins" is a very bad technique to make people take your opinion seriously because it shows bias and poor reasoning skills.
The entire swear word is filtered in some cases, for instance, the F bomb.
In the example I cited, it was a famous quote without any profanity, but was deemed "obscene". That is such a horrible misrepresentation. People who see that edit would really misinterpret what I was trying to say because the content was outright thrown out. There has to be some kind of objectivity here.
