Small (1) energy booster · · 130 likes

Right now, we got cans starting at 2M dollar giving a reasonable amount of E. And there's beer, cheap stuff giving only a minor nerve addition.
For 95% of the players, cans are too expensive to use regularly. For 100% of the players, beer is.... well..... admit it, you take it because you can, not because you think it's a super addition to your gameplay.

So, my suggestion is a small energy booster to give those 95% of the players some worthy use for their booster cooldown.

Item: Cup of coffee
Gives: 1 energy (can be influenced with faction perks like beer does)
Cost: $100 at Bits 'n Bobs
Cooldown: 1 hour increase of booster cooldown.

This way, you get max 24 energy a day from it (or a little more with faction perks), so it's not so much influencing the game, but it still gives a nice little extra and a worthy use for booster cooldown.

Besides.... when you got that nasty looking "9 energy" or so, you can fill it up to 10 to get nice, round numbers again.

You and your faction members load yourselves with spicy jalapeno tacos and go to the toilets next to the Relentless HQ!
You set the timer to just over an hour to give your faction members enough time to clear the area.
Now it's only a matter of patience...

Young Trader Competition! Win BIG Prizes! · · 3 likes

Sounds like a fun competition!

Hereby, my submission:

1. What taught me the most about trading is a lucky incident I had when I was first discovering the items market. In my private life I am used to find 'buy low, sell high' opportunities and I was looking if I could do the same in Torn. I noticed that the prices of several items changed quite rapidly up and down with several %, mostly plushies, flowers and drugs. Then suddenly, I noticed that someone had put 10k vicodin up for sale, for the price of $999 each. Probably the seller missed one digit in that price, but I saw it was a veteran player, so I quickly made use of it by spending all my money on vicodin and putting it up for sale at market price straight away. From that point, for week I have been monitoring the prices of all common items on the market and buying when it was low and selling it for a profit right after the purchase.

2. What I would do differently when starting out.... Well, in the beginning, I thought that it was best to maximize my profit by putting items for sale at high prices (about the value). I would leave my bazaar open and at some point during the night, someone would be desperate enough to still buy it even though the price was quite high. I thought it was good for my profits to do it this way. But it meant that I had too much money in my pocket while being offline and there's always someone to mug you when you're asleep. So in the end, the extra profit wasn't worth it. After realising that, I started to use the philosophy that 'money in your pocket isn't making you any new money'. So I always sell my items straight away at a price I can get within an hour, so that I can use the newly gained money as quickly as possible again to make new money..

3. My advice to people selling bricks and beers to save up for a bazaar is to not only buy Bits 'n Bobs' stuff and sell it, but also buy from the item market. It's quite easy to find good bargains that you can sell with a profit. When you buy 100 dahlia for 6000 and sell them 10 minutes later for 7500, you just made $150000 profit in 10 minutes. Bob won't get you such profits. So my advice is to get out of those standard shops, out of the marked path and find your own way in the world of Torn and find your own ways of making profits.

Passive Income! · · 10 likes

Passive incomes worth the investment:
- bank investment (with merits and TCB stock block)
- FHC block
- HRG block
- TCHS block
- LSC block
- SYM block
- if you have plenty of money, you can let other, poorer players hold stock blocks or do bank investment for you and you can agree on a percentage (50/50 for example) that the person can keep

Passive incomes not worth the investment:
- PRN block (but isn't worth it)
- All stock blocks that pay out dividend
- Renting out properties
- Cayman banking

Semi-passive incomes that you can do without much risk:
- Buy beer/bricks/plushies at Bits 'n Bobs and sell (little gain)
- Unlock pharmacy and buy empty blood bags or other meds that sell well at that time
- Filling blood bags and sell them
- Coding virusses and sell them
- Crimes (kidnap mayor is the safe crime with highest gain. Arson warehouse still gives 10k and is good xp)
- Jobs that pay salary or give bonuses that you can sell (cans, edvds, etc)

A bit more active incomes with little to no risk:
- Flower/plushie running
- Claiming bounties
- Learn to revive (medical job) and revive for money
- Leslie's wheel (profit and loss seem to be quite equal, so don't think there's much money to be made unless you win the PI)
- Solve the crossword in the newspaper
- Participate actively in NPC (Duke) attacks
- Slutting
- Participate in community events
- Sell your city finds

Bookie 2.0 BETA · · 19 likes

Funny how the old players keep saying that it's not an issue that you can't use bookie for storing money anymore. I guess you don't have to work so hard for your money anymore do you?

As a newer player who can't afford a PI with a vault yet, I'm trading my ass off to make money. Constantly searching for items that I can make a few 100k profit on. When I do that for an hour, I use the bookie to store and retrieve money dozens of times. When there's such an increased risk of being mugged, the whole trading will never pay off. Putting an hour's work into making a few millions and then being mugged for the same amount. Nahhh, not my cup of tea.

People mention a lot of alternative storage options, but they all don't make sense to use for a trader, except for the vault which I can't afford. I need instant storage and instant access, since the good deals are usually gone in seconds after you spot them.

For the old players it's easy to say that the increase of mugging is a good side effect of this bookie 2.0. I would say that too if i'd be on the side who can store their own cash in a vault and mug the cash of those who can't store it.

It's a pity to conclude that after almost a year of playing, I'll have to go back to running plushies again to make my money.

Aren't you forgetting the part that with this guy, you're doing rent-to-buy. You can't compare it to a rent where you don't end up owning the PI. Of course, there's the question of reliability (if he's really giving you the PI after 2 years), but that's a different matter than just comparing costs.

Your Thoughts: Racing skill progression overhaul · · 4 likes

I wouldn't mind the rapid skill increase if there wasn't a cap at 100. I can totally imagine that the URT in a few years is just a casino play with all drivers at 100 RS.

I read that you can turn off certain features of the script, but I'm clueless as to how. I like all features, but don't wanna know the results at race start, so hoping to be able to turn that off.

Press Pass from TV Network Nerfs · · 2 likes

I think most people joined a TV network specifically for that racing skill gain (I know I did). The rest is bonus.

Press Pass from TV Network Nerfs ·

To me, this means I'm seriously reconsidering my TV job. The press pass used to be the only way to reach 100 RS. If now it's also possible to reach it naturally, then the press pass only makes the goal slightly faster to reach. But then, at some point when you reach 100 RS all natural gains end and all the press passes that gave you an RS gain will feel like a waste. So, while I was hoping for RS gain when using my job points, I'm now not so sure anymore if that's actually a good result.

I was hoping for something good in return now that the press pass is seriously downgraded (a level 4 special for example), but just taking out the map item reveal barely feels like compensation.

Because you'll never know if you're buying from the cheapest bazaar. You're buying from the bazaar that at some point in the past was the cheapest bazaar. Script users moved on to the next cheapest bazaar and are guaranteed that it's the cheapest at that moment.

Bazaar Directory RELEASED ? ·

It sounds like you never used the old bazaar system.

You'd get the lowest price in about... uh... half a second. Try and beat that with the directory.

You really don't like paying the lowest price for something, do you?

Market fees go live Feb 22nd - Discussion · · 2 likes

I'm only going to use the bazaar if the new directory will show the lowest price of an item. If not, also 5% won't scare me away from the item market (I'm lazy). Why on earth would I use favorites if it isn't for showing the lowest price?

And the single greatest thing of the new item market is that you can easily search for RW gear. Is that something of the past and are we back to spending time searching through various bazaars to find the best weapon or armor?

You really used BCT's, FHC's and all that money and energy thinking that it would be a positive trade-off? I'm sorry to say it, but that's just naive. You could've very well predicted it to be a lottery, just like any other NPC. A merit or honor bar would've been nice yes, but expecting that you'd somehow make money out of it, nah...
