For once this week, I'm not trolling. As a low-level type, my only real comment on the competition has nothing to do with the teams, it is the basic notion of the Elimination. I don't have any problem with the competition, it just hasn't been any fun and I doubt I'll do it again next year.
The game seems to amount to a bunch of super-human mid to high level players duking it out and actually deciding the game. I spend nearly all of my time in the hospital. Occasionally, I get out of the hospital and have a handful of seconds to try to speed-click through any actions before I end up back in the hospital for hours and hours. I do have the option to use morphine to get out of the hospital, but that eats into my net worth and so far has mostly just allowed me to pay for other teams to score off of me.
I've tried to be an active player, but kills are harder to come by than I expected. Because of my level, I have a very limited target set. I am also easy picking for just about everybody. Often when I get out of the hospital, I just end up going back in without accomplishing anything because I can't find a target.
For the last month or so that I've been playing torn, it's been open in the background during the day. I periodically check it to use actions, commit crimes or try to use money before it's stolen. It's value is a distraction to break up the day. Since the completion started, the game has served no real purpose. When I check it, it's mostly to see that I've been beaten up 6 or 7 times since my last check, and that I have hours to go before I'm out of the hospital. My extensive trolling has been a weak attempt to maintain interest in the game. When the competition ends, my postings will drop to something resembling zero. If I didn't use trolling as an excuse to log in, I'd likely stop checking, since finding out I've still got three hours left in the hospital isn't worth the clicks it takes to check in. If I didn't log in for a week or so, I'm guessing I wouldn't log in ever again. That would be a shame, since torn is a decent game.
This isn't salt. I'm not whining. I just don't like the competition, and likely won't participate next year. I thought I'd share why in the hopes it might help the developers make the game more interesting to more players.
How cool would it be if you could trade both good and bad karma in for something like good and evil lawn gnomes or pink and deathly gray plastic flamingos to put in the yard of our houses? They could represent the karmic battle for our souls or something equally cosmic.
I personally think my whining was in pretty good form. Relatively good grammar, most words spelled correctly, I think my bitching points were fairly clear. I fail to see how that's poor form.
Actually, what I really want is cosmic lawn gnomes, half with halos and half with glowing eyes lined up like little armies, reenacting the battle between good and evil in my tastefully landscaped yard.
I guess it could be some sort of weird cult they all belong to. Lop off one finger at the harvest festival as a sign of devotion to their god? It's sort of like when we get shot by Duke's RPG
I also said Duke was hot. I'm level 12. I don't think I have enough money, points, stats or anything else to cheat if I wanted to. I was hoping for more of a feedback tone than a crying tone. But I'm willing to defer to your expertise on crying vs. non-crying.
I appreciate the reply. I'm not saying it's been unpleasant, and trolling turned out to be more fun than I thought it'd be. I'm not quitting over this, though I am hesitant to subscribe at the moment. I'm just hoping that more than just the team makeup mechanic is rethought for any future competitions. While it may be an issue, I just wanted to mention it's not the only one that needs to be "pondered" for any future completion of any type.
