Been in Torn for a few years, spent alot of time racing as its a perfect time to waste strategic hrs i.e bedtime or while chaining etc. Why isnt there much more to racing? It would be more realistic to make at least SOME cash for the tiny effort involved. 500k 1st finish - 250k 2nd and so on... Why not a sponsorship, sorta like how factions and companies work ; One could create a racing team, or a wanna be competitor myself could apply for one while waiting for the day I create my own race team. How about custom car colors, so every NSX isnt cookie cutter silver? And maybe a driving school and mechanic course to add to the education tree? The list could go on for paragraphs.... Racing has been fun for the merits and faction events > and OFC the once a year URT , but other than that its kinda mundane : Tho it doesnt have to be

Is there a handy guide or otherwise; for reading up on the skilled use of merits? i.e. what is mandatory? what is truly advantageous? what is a total waste? etc....
I know its quite opinionated. Ive read quite a bit 'here and there'. But now im looking to bask in it, i have a free reset and wish to use it wisely in the coming weeks. Opinions or links please.

Ive got my Cosworth tuned to take me through B - single car style. I need an opinion on my final 2 upgrade sections:
Gearbox and Tires
My thought is the Long Paddle Trans - i see it takes a bar out of dirt, but im thinkin it wont make much of a difference overall when it comes to still murdering all others in dirt except another Cos. What say the Pro's??
For tires my thought is the fast road - but the rally tires are about the same as far as stats - is there a real difference?

Was kicked from Elysian 2 days shy of 4 yrs membership. Never saw this drama coming, it was true cloak and dagger. Not worried about what I lost, Im in a great home now :D I feel the worst for the newer players that lost probably every bit of their wealth. The least upgrades through each class the better, GunRunner. Add an upgrade & see how you fair over 10 or so races...then add another. Thinking back i made it to B class using prob around 10 or less upgrades in all the lower classes. It took longer than you might want, but remember what you really really want is the points. As your skill rises you will get more wins.
When you get to B class, IMO - just buy the Cosworth. I used ~50 points in upgrades in this car and had no problem getting to A with it. You will want the Cosworth for mud track in Class A anyhow, you can finish upgrading it to max later. No points wasted, youll use this car forever (IF you keep racing after the merits anyhow)
Your real main goal (after you get past this point slump your in) is to reach A class and have 200+ points to spend, so you can max out the A class car soon as possy.
After playing a few other mob style text games that left me unfulfilled, i found Torn in an mmo list.

chill with your merit points until you understand merit points.
use DP(donator packs) the minute you think you love this city.
