Group chats! (100+ UPVOTES) · · 153 likes

I had a great idea not too long ago: make group chats a thing!

So now I'm finally posting in the suggestion forum about it.

How it could work:

It would be a chat(s) directly to the left of the trade chat, or to the right of the faction chat. There could be a little gear icon (like the settings one) on the right of the topbar of the chat. Using the settings it gave you, you could add/remove people, change the icon (there would preferably be a small list of icons that you could assign to that chat), and if you created the chat, have an option to let anyone add/remove people or to let only you do it, or change the chats name.

I think that this would be a really great feature if it got implemented, I know that I would use it a lot.

I was talking with my faction, and I came up with an idea:

How about making it so that not everyone can having the ability to retrieve armour and weapons? How about making it a permission?

Basically, it would be like the armoury access permission, but it would be for retrieving. This would mean that armoury may have to be renamed armoury/loan or something like that.

This would also mean that people couldn't retrieve stuff for themselves, unless the leader/co leader decides that they can, which would prevent people from retrieving every item because they don't know that it doesn't automatically loan it to them.

Please help me make this a thing!

Edit: make full ordinance perms clearer? I'm not sure if that's real or not, but I'm looking for a permission spesificaly for retrieves

Torn iOS app Ad-hoc installation · · 6 likes

I know that Torn is done with Apple, and because of that they are also done with iOS, but there is another way that the Torn iOS app can be installed/updated aside from the App Store.
I propose that Torn hosts its iOS app locally, and set up an ad-hoc installation.
All that an ad-hoc installation requires is an iOS Distribution Certificate, which Torn already has (as it's required for putting apps on the App Store).
This would enable Torn's iOS development team to continue to develop and update their app, without Apple's intervention.

iOS users have been waiting for a very long time to be able to receive notifications on their mobile devices, and Apple has kinda ruined that for them.

If neccesary/wanted, I would happily help set up an ad-hoc installation.

TL;DR: There is another way for Torn do distribute its iOS app, and it doesn't require anything other than what they have.

Also, if Torn refuses to do this, if people put together $300USD (for a year), an ad-hock installation of the app can be hosted by a third party (eg. me or other players). I already have the iOS installers for this option.

Hello,
I have a solution for this: torn could host an Ad-Hock installer (.ipa file). The only requirement for this is an Apple ID with a distribution certificate, which torn already has.

What Operating System are you using and why? ·

I wasn't able to get a copy of that last time I tried, I only was able to get Aloonix DE, Satanic Linux, Red Star OS 2 and 3, and DVL (it took me several hours to download it at a couple kb/s from archive.org, I'm the only seeder in the world for it :/).
...I wonder if I could run tails on a computer. It would be fast as hell.

Have you checked out Wine? That may help

Let me take a moment to respond to what you said.
CandyCrush? What the heck are you talking about? I have two fresh Win10 installs right now and I don't have any of that.
Windows automatically installs CandyCrush, some solitaire game, and a bunch of others.
"freezing out of blue"? Don't act like you have a real problem with Windows. The blue screen hasn't existed for a decade.
Seriously, windows freezing is common even on fresh installs. And, unlike on macOS, there's no built in recovery partition that lets you re-install or repair your OS.
  • OS updates break everything and make life hell for about a week for the whole world. Don't act like you don't have this, it's the number 1 complaint and pretty much the theme of the entire mac world.
  • The Mac malware explosion. 20% of the platform is unsupported for security updates (that number's from Apple by the way)! You complain about CandyCrush? Get real.
  • Huge lack of tools. You can't run things on a mac because developers create things for Windows. If you want something helpful running on Apple, you better get an iPhone. "The PC wars are over. Done. Microsoft won a long time ago."- Steve Jobs
  • Apple's unchanging business model: tie hardware to the OS? That's so 30 years ago! Now, in the world of "agile" development, the hardware has become the problem for updates and performance. Apple's solution? "buy a new computer every year". Lame. At least you wouldn't have to go through the update process :-)
"OS updates break". OS updates don't break on macOS. Even if you're computer runs out of power when updating, all you've got to do is plug in an installer and a charger, and it instantly completes the update. Let's see if windows can do that.

"The Mac malware explosion". The most common malware for macOS is MacKeeper, and that's easy to clean up. I can even create a bash command which will do it off of the top of my head:
1. Open terminal and type the following command:
2. sudo rm -r /Applications/MacKeeper.app/Contents "/System/LaunchAgents/com.MacKeeper"* "/System/LaunchDaemons/com.MacKeeper"* "/Library/LaunchAgents/com.MacKeeper"* "/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.MacKeeper"* "~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.MacKeeper"*; killall MacKeeper; sudo rm -r /Applications/MacKeeper.app
3. Tada! Easy! Let's see you clean up a windows virus that easily. Not to mention that even if you get hit by a virus that destroys macOS, it's relatively easy to get all of your files back. So yeah, I think I will complain about CandyCrush.

"20% of the platform is unsupported for security updates (that number's from Apple by the way)!" What does that even mean? 20% of their OS is unsupported for security updated? How would that work? Unlike windows, downloading anything from online won't give macOS a virus. Remember the WannaCry virus? That was windows. Windows security is basically a joke.

"Huge lack of tools. You can't run things on a mac because developers create things for Windows." ...wow. Just wow. Hmmmm... in the uncommon case that something is only available for windows, I can usually run it on macOS easily, using Wine. All I've got to do is run the .exe, exactly like on windows. That being said, most things are available for both OSs, and if not, there are equivalents easily available. I'd like to see windows run a .app.

""The PC wars are over. Done. Microsoft won a long time ago."- Steve Jobs" You didn't say when he said that. A quick duckduckgo search found me this: "As quoted in Fortune (19 February 1996)". A lot has changed since 1996.

"Apple's unchanging business model: tie hardware to the OS? That's so 30 years ago!" Are you talking about what hardware you can install macOS on? Because you can install macOS on anything, just like with windows and linux. And, unlike other companies, Apple hardware actually lets you chose what drive, even partition you want to start up in, with just one button push. No bootloaders necessary.

"Now, in the world of "agile" development, the hardware has become the problem for updates and performance." I'm pretty sure that you're talking about windows. You're talking about windows, right? Because anyone who can look up something can run newer versions of macOS on their computer. (Hint: dosdude1's patchers). Not to mention that macOS is reliable and generally fast, unlike windows, which is both slow and unreliable. "Oh, we're just going to lose what you were working on by taking an hour to update. By the way, if you interrupt the process, the OS can become corrupted. Have a nice wait!"

"Apple's solution? "buy a new computer every year". Lame. At least you wouldn't have to go through the update process :-)" That's a double standard. Every company tries to get you to buy a new computer in as little time as possible, no one isn't guilty of that. At least apple doesn't make their laptops fall apart to die within 1-2 years of regular use. Have you ever looked inside a newer laptop? Let me tell you, it's sad.

I do fresh installs of Windows 10 all of the time, as the people who's computers I'm repairing want it. I can't blame them, as most people can't learn a new OS after years of using the same one. I know that all of those things that you're denying happen, and I'm not saying that Apple doesn't have it's own problems. That would be a lie. But you're directly attacking Apple, making up things off of the top of your head....why even bother? You could have just brought up DirectX instead. This forum wasn't made for attacking people. And lastly, me using macOS doesn't make me better than you.

As Shakespeare wrote, "Thy doth protest too much, methinks".

So it's not only me who thinks that 2012 macs are the best?
I personally use a mid-2012 MBP because it's easily repairable, customizable, and upgradable. It also doesn't have a lot of the problems that the newer ones do!
-Also I don't want to shell out several thousand dollars buying a laptop that I can't upgrade or repair. I'd have to pay for the 2tb drive and as much ram as I could get, which apple charges way too much for.
So yeah, apple was best (computer wise) in 2012.
