If you're unfamiliar, it's an off-road event where people cobble together all sorts of weird cars, with the goal of buying the vehicle for around $500. Then you take it out into the woods and see how many miles you can rack up over 4 days and 3 nights (for the Oregon Gambler 500 anyway, there are others but this one is the original), with the goal of getting 500+ miles. There are also goals/awards for most trash found while out in the woods, among other things. It's a great time for pretty much any level of gear-head or grease-monkey.
We have a 2000 Subaru Outback with over 299k miles that we got brand new from the dealership. This thing is a TANK. Needs a new transmission eventually, but we'll be getting something newer before that craps out on us. Once we do get something newer, we're gonna put a lift on the Outback and build it into a car for the Gambler 500.
